fake fur stuck in the up down mechanism

You have all been so helpful about the weak machine I wonder if you can help me with trying to fix my singer.

I had 3 party bags to go (fake fur, monster bags) and for some stupid reason I flipped the fur on the left hand side of the foot up and it got caught in the rod that goes up and down and lifts the needle. It jammed and won't move. I pulled out what I could of the fur, and even tried burning it out , thinking that nylon would burn quickly but nothing happened. (It's a good solid metal machine)

I took the casing off the side but can't get any further, there is nothing left to unscrew that looks obvious.

Is this a job for the experts or is there something else I can try? Turning the handle does nothing and I don't want to burn the motor out.

Cheers Lisa

That's OK - some of us are in both places anyway! :)

Wandering along the edges of rec.crafts.textiles.sewing, I found the following bit of electronic flotsam written by snipped-for-privacy@lactivist.co.uk in news: snipped-for-privacy@h76g2000cwa.googlegroups.com:

For one thing, nylon doesn't burn, it melts because it's plastic. Silk or cotton could be charred away, probably, but I'd be reluctant to try it.
