Stuck in Las Vegas

Snow wasn't exactly what we expected here, but snow is what we've got and all flights out are definitely cancelled.

Please cross fingers or pray we'll get out earlyish tomorrow. I was so looking forward to getting home, stuck with two kids and pregnant isn't the greatest!

So, Anne, did you get out?

nope, still here, originally got rebooked for an early flight on friday, called the airline this morning and managed to shift that to the last flight today, but all planes to Seattle so far today are running late, so it will be VERY late (or rather early tomorrow!) when we get back, we did quite a lot of walking around along the strip and the various hotels and shopping places, but eventually decided to come to the airport as there are quite a few places to hang around, plus a free internet connection!

We've been here (Las Vegas) over a week and we haven't put a penny in yet! I think it's actually easier to stick to if you have an absolutely not policy. There are some machines they have in amusement arcades in the UK where they have trays of coins sliding back and forth and several choices of slots you can put your money in, with the aim being to time it right to knock them off. I used to do that, thinking I would use up my change or I might break a bigger coin, but you do get that feeling that the next coin you'll win - I've never gone totally silly, but I know the feeling. DH is also very anti gambling.

i'm not much of a gambler either. tho spending those last few fairly otherwise useless coins seems like a good investment in time if nothing else, perhaps a scientific experiment. :)) just this once, will you ever be back to play them again..... j.

At least if we're in the same country, there isn't such thing as useless coins, plus, we cleared them all out giving a tip anyway!

I'm really sorry you've been trapped, but I hope you'll be home very soon. Gosh, people come here for the *good* weather -- what a story you'll have to share. :S

We've been to Vegas a couple times to visit friends & so did hit the casinos a couple times. One of the things that seemed so strange about LV was the slot machines every where you went. I played quarter machines a couple times, but that seemed like the money went too fast, so I mostly stuck to the nickel machines. The last time there, I think we tripled our gambling money -- spent about $2 and came home with $6. I think the first time, we pretty much broke even.

It is kind of funny, the really silly thing is, when it was snowing in LV yesterday, it was fine at home despite a bad forecast, but now it's pretty bad at home, DH found some webcam pics of the freeways and it doesn't look good, it will be after 2am when we get to the airport, then we have to pick up our car, which is a smallish one and not 4WD and slowly and carefully get home!

We were pretty shocked to see a stat somewhere that the average person loses about 600 dollars - which given there are plenty of people like us, either not gambling or small change, means there must be some pretty big losers out there!

Spent about $2 on slot machines just to say we'd done it, and DH won me a little pink teddybear called LV from the child orientated section at Circus Circus. It was a shooting gallery with water guns!! About our level!

It's thanks to those people that we have no state income tax, Anne!
