As it is just one week until Christmas, I figure this is a good time to report on my Aussie Santa Quilt! I made this little 17" square WH back in
2001. The center is a square of fabric printed with an Australian Santa .... complete with a kangaroo to carry the toys, and a few koalas to help! This guy wears an orange coat, and there is some lime green in the design, all on a red ground. To call it cool is an understatement. It came to me from Linda, a former RCTQ poster in Oz. Loosely speaking, it is a log cabin style, using a strips of various widths, angles and colors. I included VERY bold shadings of colors: red, yellow, lime, white, orange. I added some goofy decorative stitches. I love this quilt! Unfortunately, I could never find "the right spot" to display it. I did hang it here or there, but it was never shown to its best advantage. Until this year! Last winter we painted the downstairs WC (powder room) a bold pea soup green. The accent is a star with yellow, orange, green, aqua and pink. The towels are in similar color, as is a small rug. Well, I've gotta tell you, this little quilt SHINES in that space!! Woo hoo! A bonus: I have a stamp basket WH of same size and similar color way, which will take that space when the holidays are over. I'm pretty sure Santa will want to stay up until at least the 12th day of Christmas: January 7th. So, if Linda happens to drop in to RCTQ, I hope she reads how much pleasure her squishy gave me. To all: find something unexpected to add to your holiday! PAT in VA/USA- posted
