breadman machine baking question

Has anyone ever tried to 'reheat' bread in this machine a day after it was baked? The reason I'm asking is, with summer upon us and the heat unbearable in the kitchen to put the oven on, I thought maybe to reheat bread in the machine in the baking cycle. The bread does not taste as good as after the initial baking.

Reheating bread can restore it from staleness, once. The heat, in simplified terms, re-energizes some chemicals in the bread. However, after one time, the chemicals are gone.

The re-heating is normally done at about 250 - 300F for 10 or 15 minutes. A full bake is not needed.

All of this is a way of saying, if your bread maker has a re-heat setting, knock yourself out. If not, I'd be stunned if it worked the way you want it to.

A toaster oven on low heat will probably do a better job, and let you refresh just the part of the loaf you want to eat.

Hope this helps, Mike
