a question for you beading types....

I have a question for all you beaders, or maybe several.

As some of you have noticed, I make pressed flower arrangements. [This is not off topic, folks, hang with me.] I am now experimenting with ways to make jewelry with the pressed flowers by encasing them in clear form fitting gook [can't recall the right name]. As I'm working on these I'm sort of seeing that combining the results with beads of some sort[s] might make very interesting results. What I'm seeing, *so far*, would be beads above flowers on dangly earrings, using flowers as a focal point on a necklace, using flowers on barrettes. If the flower is encased in a see through covering that molds pretty closely to the shape of the flower, what suggestions might you expert beaders have to this very rank novice on types of beads to set off the flowers, possibly between the flower and the earring hook, or above the flowers on a necklace? I'm very open to suggestions and am still experimenting with how best to actually attach the flower to the earring/necklace, etc. Oh, and tools and other related items are something I'd need to learn about too!

TIA

/walks to other room to check package. Envirotex lite.

That's what the package says. Husband bought it for me over a year ago for a different project entirely. I have a lot left over.

As to your other question: Earrings: I'm picturing a flower [ever seen a cigar plant flower? ] hanging down like a bell, with a bead or two above it before you get to the hook that goes into the pierced ear hole. As to necklace, that gets trickier as there could be many options. I've toyed with all sorts of ideas from simple chain with pendant effect of pressed flowers with maybe a few beads above the flowers to the chain, to a fully beaded necklace with the flowers added as the pendant/center of interest and even using metal in some way to wrap around the flowers in resin but I think that I'd have a whole lot to learn in metal work before we go there. {I do like my mental picture, though......]

The envirotex lite makes a nice covering so far, but is a bit messy and I'm still experimenting to minimize drip to near invisibility. I'd also love to know a material that that stuff does *not* stick to that I could then use for molds. So much to learn.....

but at least I know that I can successfully press sunflowers [another long story and current commission.....]

Well, here's an idea, although somewhat different from what I'd been picturing. Very Very beautiful!

I have a mental block when I consider the differences in the weight and durability between some sort of plastic and glass.

But I really love that flower jewelry on the site you showed us. Are you thinking of a lentil shaped covering of clear plastic for similar designs? I think I would be devastated to have a flower necklace like those and then loose it to scrathes or dulling.

I am still experimenting with the best method of protecting the flowers but I think that encasing it in epoxy might be the best method. Do you [or anyone reading] know how scratch resistant that stuff is? I have an 8 year old who will probably be performing all tests for durability and scratch resistance......
