York Beads...way too expensive. You can really do damage in Korea town. Real wholesale (and seemingly below) prices all along the row.

If you get a chance, check out the Cloisters, a beautiful old monastery.

Ohhhh yes! I used to get in trouble with the security guards on a regular basis. I was a weaver at the time, and I did any kind of gymnastics I could to try to see the backs of various tapestries. Finally I left my card at the desk one day, with a note pleading with whatever curator Mattered, to please please please get a chance to just look, no touching. I made a wonderful friend that way.

~snip~ Ah, my hometown! Fall is one of my favorite times to be in New York, too. If you want to have a deli tour, you could start at Katz's on Houston Street. Yum. Katz's is famous for their deli sandwiches ("Send a salami to your boy in the army" fame). A little further west on Houston is Russ and Daughters, famous for smoked fish and other goodies. Further west a little more on Houston you'll find Yonah Schimmels - a knish bakery. (the blueberry cheesecake knish was my husband's fave)

Another fave of mine is Rocco's Italian Restaurant on Thompson Street in the Village. Mamoun's (falafel) on Mc Dougal in the village is yummy if you want to eat while wandering about....great cheap eats!

When I was there this summer, we saw the Ruhlmann exhibit at the Met; it was gorgeous! He was a Deco-era decorative designer. The furniture he designed was amazing! The Dangerous Liaisons exhibit was ok - I've seen better costume exhibits at the Met, but it was worth seeing. The Guggenheim has a Bracusi exhibit that is divine!
