I wore my ff bracelet to work today and got a LOT of nice comments from staff and customers. The best was from a young woman I work with, I posted about her a while ago, the one who sewed paua shell on the hem of her skirt. Her jaw dropped open a bit and she sort of went into a trance looking at it. She makes a bit of jewelery and said rather wistfully that she'd love to be able to bead like me. I offered to give her lessons.

Just got my Fire Mountain Gems catalog. (I know they aren't well liked) But they have a couple of pages of paua now.
I've never been able to turn anyone onto beadwork. I only have one female friend, and I think she regards me as being strange for having the hobbies that I do. And of course, my male friends are far more interested in video games than beadwork. although I did threaten to drag them all along to the next bead show I go to because they teased me when I went to one last month.
that's one of the reasons why I enjoy reading this newsgroup so much..it's nice to see people who share my love of beads and jewelry making, and understand all of the happiness and sense of satisfaction that comes from it. even while you're cursing the nymo or tearing apart a piece after the 20th failed/not quite right attempt at doing it.

I knew the first time I went down to the hip/artsy part of town and bought stuff by the kilo and 1/2K that I was well and truly on the bullet train to hell. I mean beady-dom. :)
