Back from DIY hell!

Well I am back on line having been in parental/DIY hell for the past 4 weeks.

It started with an innocent thought that I would declutter my bedroom (and boy did it need it). Then having done that, I decided that I (or rather my friend he he he!) would rip out the built in cupboard that was about 3' x 5' and was just used as a dumping groundby everyone. Then having done that the room needed decorating and recarpeting. In the meantime I put everything in the office so I couldnt get to the computer (dumb really dumb).

As if DIY wasnt stressful enough in the midst of all this the hospital called to say my Dad needed to go in for a heart by pass and oh can he come in day after tomorrow? Well as the UK girls know this doesnt often happen on the NHS but it really did this time. He had been for an angiogram a couple of weeks ago and when the consultant looked at the films he saw that one artery was almost completely blocked and 2 more were on their way so Dad couldnt wait. We were expecting him to have to wait 3-4 months just to see the consultant.

Thankfully he is really well and the only reason he is in hospital still is that he also disabled and cant get around cos he's not allowed to use his arms for weight bearing after the op.

Then Mum (who has emphesma) had a chest infection and it was touch and go as to wether she would join him in hospital.

So having sorted out the parents to be on their way to recovery and sleeping in a building site, the decorating is delayed cos half of it needs redoing, then the carpet men send the wrong carpet (it was a skinned teletubby I swear).

Finally 4 weeks later I have an absolutely beautiful lilac and white bedroom with loads more space and light. Now of course my office is trashed and I need to sort that out!

Oh and the beads are crying cos they are lonely and I havent played with them for ages.

So I'm going to work tomorrow for a rest! :-)

Sorry to hear about your parents' health issues... hope they are both doing better and back to their usual schedules soon.

I am amazed you actually did finish your bedroom. That must be really nice!

I am so glad that your parents are on the road to recovery, your room is looking good, and you're planning to take a beady break:)

What a harrowing time you have had. I was thinking of you today and thought I must get in touch. Sorry to hear about your Dad, I too had on artery totally blocked and 2 partially blocked and I had to wait 6 months for my bypass.

It is very trying when you are not allowed to use your arms. No pushing them down on the mattress to ease yourself up the bed. It was a case of walking up on your backside and that is not easy. I hope he gets on well.

I hope your mum also feels better soon.

Best wishes Shirley

and thanks everyone for your kind mails.

Dad is doing pretty well, he'd be home if he wasnt otherwise disabled which slows things up. Also today he developed a pain in his side which the Drs think may be a blood clot so he is having tests to see if it is and anti clotting drugs just in case. Fingers crossed its not!

Poor thing didnt need this on top of everything else. He misses everyone (especially the grand kids) and just wants to come home. We cant have him until he can get in and out of a chair and bed and manage the stairs, as I can only have 2 weeks off work to look after him and Mum couldnt manage on her own.

Still I found my beads tonite and might even get round to clearing the desktop so they can come out to play soon! You should see it the room is a shambles its really terrible. I think I shall have to invest in some more bin bags at the weekend and get rid of some more junk!

:-)
