Beads Redux

Ok....I went to the Bead Renaissance in Denver on Friday, in spite of this Headcold from Hell. Didn't sneeze on anyone's display, either. Georger and Kevin O'Grady were there along with many other wonderful beadmakers/sellers. Found a place with new acrylic resin beads that hold mondo possiblities....dropped a bundle. These can be painted/stamped onto or also polymer-ed.. Also stocked up a little on seed beads for the in-betweeny parts of some new pieces. And saw my pal Pat at Fancy this! and stocked up on some beauts there too, including some cobalt and green leaf beads....Went home, sorted and bagged and realized that all my beads needed going-through...so sorted and bagged all day yesterday, finished last night. Everything is now in clamshell plastic boxes

and visible, grabable, useable and color sorted. I'm re-organizing the entire studio space, and about to launch into a whole new season of Making Stuff. I'm gonna pull down my website in a few weeks and redo with things actually AVAILABLE for easy purchase, etc. Having now seen exactly what I HAVE, I know what else I need to get and also MAKE, mostly make....shoe beads, hand beads, girl beads, and faux finish beads are on the Big List, along with more faces and dolls. Gotta use up canes, make stuff and then make MORE!!!!!!!!!! I have an itch to learn some new things...like PMC, and lampworking, and I can see that that's RAWTHER time/energy consuming--so I gotta clear a big place first!! Then, maybe by next Spring..................... Wish me luck---this cleaning/reorganizing is fun but I also notice I really need more beads!! I have used up many that I thought I still had! Sarajane

Good luck. With the 'clear the decks and see what you've got" in your work-space, and the make-over of your website.

And acquiring new materials doesn't sound like much of a hardship, either...

oh, do spare a tear for me Deirdre, I may have to go along on a trip this week to Western Costume in Las Vegas, home of crystals, feathers, beads, fabrics and more..."If we don't have it, you don't need it" is their slogan. If I go, I'll bringing back more goodies, AND I now have a place to put them. Sarajane

wore me out doing it too, Sooz...I got into the flow of it and it was just too hard to stop.....so I now have a much nicer and neater bead area...and my other spaces down here come next. Bryan is reorganizing his side too, and got some of his music gear set up for new recordings!!!!! I went through a little of this a while back, so its a little easier but there's still so much STUFF down here---it actually feels good to throw away things that are never going to be useful, like hardened pots of fabric paint and the can of TLSculpey that was from the first experimental batch, bricks of CFC clay, from before it was Premo--nice doorstop, but no other possible future there. I suspect we have a wealth of them here--I noticed the newspaper yesterday had an advert for the Whole Bead Show in downtown Denver the same days as the Bead Renaissance farther uptown. I would have gone if I had known, so its just as well I didn't! I don't think the splitting of the target market like that is a good idea, from a promoter/merchant viewpoint. Sarajane

I had a great time, Starlia--and probably spent more than I should have, but hey, that's the way the market works. Sarajane

I screwed it up, sorry----Western IS the best costume place in Hollywood-- but the one in Las Vegas is Williams Costume Co. We're also hoping to hit a couple of bead stores and stamp stores. Sarajane

]this cleaning/reorganizing is fun but I also notice I really ]need more beads!!

the only excuse for cleaning/reorganizing is to make room for more beads.

when i was with my mother this weekend, i found out there were two type-cabinets in storage. one of them is MINE. it will probably need refinishing, but then i can fill it with type drawers full of lampwork!
