It's official...I have too many beads.

Backstory: I took Wed-Fri off this week for the express purpose of cleaning my office, doing household paperwork and cleaning/organizing my bead room and catching up on overdue repairs & projects.

It took all of Wednesday to clear off my desk, file, make phone calls, clean, etc. my office. I mean all day, as in 8 AM until Midnight, breaks for meals and Avner included.

So far today I swept, vacuumed and mopped the bead room floor (this is also the cat's room). Set up 2 card tables, laid out & labeled some plastic shoeboxes and brought in all the various bead, polyclay, fiber, etc. related junk from all over the house and proceeded to sort it by type. Then I started in on the loose stuff covering my worktable.

I have an entire shoebox of lampwork. I must have close to $500 or more in lampwork in there. ACK! And there's more I would love to buy. I have a serious lampwork problem, lol. I have an entire shoebox of Swarvoski crystals and pearls. I have an entire shoebox of misc. glass beads (Czech, etc.) I have an entire shoebox of metal beads & findings (99% of these are sterling). I have an entire shoebox of stone beads and pearls.

This does not even count the 3 parts drawer systems I have on the worktable which are full of every kind of bead known to man, practically. Nor does it count the strands hanging from the bookrack. Plus, I still have to sort out all my polyclay supplies and tools.

And I still need to start on projects and figure out how I"m going to store the contents of all these shoeboxes!!

In all seriousness, how do you decide what to keep and what to sell? I've got to sell off some of this stuff, there's just too much. But I'm scared that I might *need* it, ya know?

Advice??

Keep it all. Or send it to me.

You have far less beads than many on here. If it's guilt bothering you, a woman who makes jewelry to sell needs to have supplies to work with. Call it inventory and don't feel guilty.

I know the feeling of maybe I'll need this - how can I get rid of it? I love having stuff. lots of stuff. Maybe I'm materialistic, I don't know. I just like having all 132 colors of green seedbeads. So what if I almost never use them now. I just like knowing they're there if I need them. In case of beading emergency.

I think guilt is a BIG part of it. I just look at it and think...wow, that's a month's worth of groceries. You are right, I need inventory to make stuff to sell. My goal is to make enough items to stock a booth at one of the local markets come spring.

I don't think I could ever adequately answer that question, Kathy:) But, um....any chance Bob ever found that package with the silver and pearls in it? I'd still very much like to use the pearls on my gunmetal cuff :-)

Keep the good stuff. Sell the junk.

Just think of the leafy jewelry you can make! That's a pro thing. An amateur would have twelve colors for such a job. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

I don't get it. Why are you upset---? Because you don't have enough beads?

Because that's what it sounds like to me! ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

Okay, now I need to cry. Every bead I own would fit into a large-ish shoe box. Hmm...alright...some of the seed beads might need to lay on top, but still...close enough.

Ok so who can have too many beads??? Im a new bead addict and I should think you cannot have too many beads right? Penny

LOL - you don't have too many. There's no such thing!!! OTOH, if you feel like selling some Swarovski, I would get in line.

And $500 in lampwork is small potatoes, honey. You should see some of the hoards I have seen from people here who shall remain nameless!!

Youre on the right track. A quilter can make a quilt with only one fabric, but shelves full of fabric increases the possibilty of having fabrics that will sing together well. With more choices in beads you also have more options, more combinations to pursue and try. What you own is potential. Bon apetite! Diana

Thats what I am thinking. No such thing as to much. Its all in how you store them. :-) Diana

Candace, its a matter of perspective. I have slightly less beads than you and I feel positively rich! Look at what we can make with just the little bits we already have! Thats a good feeling. And, since you have clay you can make more! What you have that the average non beady person has that its to be envied is the ability to see the potential in the goodies around you. Diana, you are 100% correct. I love it when I find new ways to think of things:) (But I'm still allowed to lust for and drool over the beads I can't and don't have, right? lol)
