Beadwork magazine

Does anyone receive it through subscription?

I ordered a two-year subscription in May and received my first issue today.

*sigh* They said my subscription would start with the June/July issue, and it turned out to be the April/May one I already have, and it arrived without any sort of shipping sleeve or protection. And it looked like the postal workers had all had a read of it, folded it for future reference and then delivered it to me yesterday.

I've written to them on the subject but I'm curious as to the experiences of anyone else who gets it by subscription. My Lapidary Journal issues arrive in a plastic sleeve, in excellent condition so I know it's possible to get international magazines in good shape.

My Beadwork sometimes arrived sleeved, sometimes not. I would complain and ask for a credit towards the subscription. They should know better when mailing overseas.

Thanks for the info, Barb.

I've written using my most posh and elegant diction trying to impress upon them the necessity of having their work arrive in my mailbox in pristine condition. If I want to eat Cheetos and get the pages messy, at least I know where the Cheetos have been.

I used to get mine from Spangles a bead book shop. The 0ne pound postage was a killer each time for that and B+B. I get both of them from a newsagent in Chesterfield. Shirley

I'm wavering between waiting till they hit our newsagent, they do carry them but I'm SO impatient. My sis has offered to mail them from the US when they come out but that's a lot of work for her. I guess I'm just grumpy today.

In my book, waiting a long time to receive the wrong issue in terrible condition is worth being grumpy about. I hope they address the situation for you to your satisfaction!

Su, Jan in NZ here. I am silent these days as I can not post on my new server. It broadcast my husbands name and full email address so I had it changed and now i can't post. Will solve it when our helper gets home in a few weeks. However, I felt strongly enough to go to our old server and plod through thousands of posts to comment about Beadwork magazine. I have had to complain 4 times in about 8 issues. The June/July issue arrived without a cover, battered and torn. At least it did arrive. Three other issues didn't. When I complained about the non arrival of April/ May I was told a replacement was being sent but nothing arrived. Apparently, they had run out so have extended my subscription. I would rather a full set of magazines. In contrast, Bead and Button arrives regular as clockwork and arrives when the USA gets theirs. I have my October one already but not the Beadwork issue. Surely, they can do better than torn and irregular posts. Unless I get better service I will not be renewing. Strangely enough, I do get lots of posts about renewing. Cheers, Jan

Thanks for taking the time to give me a reply, Jan!

I started getting renewal notices months before I saw a single issue, and so far all I have seen is the one issue that's been battered. My email to them has been ignored too. Not exactly good business practice.

I plan to phone them today and have a 'chat' with them. Thank you for the additional ammunition. I'd rather wait for it at the local news agent.

I couldn't be bothered going through the hassles of subscribing (damaged copies, non-arrivals, giving up my details so I end up getting a sh*tload of junk mail, etc).

I have my local (I'm in Sydney) newsagent order in copies specially for me and keep them under the counter. Sure, I get them a month or two after the US, but I *do* get them, and in pristine condition.

Su, how did you get on with Beadwork magazine? Cheers, Jan

OOohhh! Inadequately at best. I have been told I can 'upgrade' to airmail for extra money and then risk getting the magazines in the same shape as they don't package them due to 'environmental issues'.

I told them to cancel my subscription, I'd rather hang around the newsagent, read it there and then buy Bead & Button.

No reply from them as yet. :-D

If you want, Su, we can do this:

I can receive your subscription and send it to you each issue. It can't be all that more expensive than your own UK-delivered sub. -- I bet it's cheaper. Puhleeze let me know, dolling. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

I knew you were the sweetest thing the first time I read your messages! Thanks for such a generous offer. I'll have to pass on it though as my sis has offered the same thing and she gets very grumpy when I don't let her do things for me. Plus, she works in a bookstore so I have to be nice to her! I had just thought that a magazine company could actually mail magazines! Silly me!

Thanks though, you're the Queen of Nice Thoughts.

Steph, you are a darling -- but ask anyone who's been here for more than a year, and they'll tell you it ain't so. I can be a real bitch, and have done so frequently on RCB. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

OMG -- anyone who thinks Kandice is a bitch IS ON CRACK -- you're right.

Opinionated, yes. She has a RIGHT to that. But a bitch? Come on, they must be stupid. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce
