Starry, starry night swap

Like many people I love the looking at the stars at night wondering how far they are and if there is any life on a planet nearby. One of my favourite paintings is the starry starry night painting by Vincent van Gogh which is why the swap bears this name :-)

Some of the guidelines may seem tough but I am looking out for all of you so you get the same quality back that you send out.

this group of swappers is at 19 members and counting...

Time line:

v Signup by March 1st 2007 by joining the following yahoo group:

formatting link
Ø And entering your name and the number of sets you HOPE to send in into the participants database. Remember that the number of sets you enter into the data base is not set in stone and you can adjust the numbers as you get closer to the day. It's only final once it's in the mail.

v Mailing deadline May 31st

Ø this is the final day to get your blocks in the mail!

v The blocks will be swapped in the third week of June

v The blocks will be put in the mail by the last week of June

v The blocks will start arriving home in the first week of July

The block method, size and number:

v We will be making 6" FINISHED = 6 ½ inch UNFINISHED stars

v you may use any method to make the stars but please if you are doing appliqué make sure it's firmly fixed with no raw edges showing

v The stars will be swapped in sets of 6 stars. All stars in each set will be the same.

v There is a minimum of 1 set and a maximum of 6 sets

v For each set sent in you will receive 6 different stars back.

Colours and fabrics to use:

v All fabric must be pre-washed. Without the use of fabric softener

v Each set MUST be completely made with different fabrics but the star pattern may be the same if you choose.

v The colour for the stars is tone on tones between pale yellow and orange

v The background is tone on tones or a celestial print from medium blue to black

v There should not be any other colours used in the swap or the prints of the fabrics though a **tiny** amount of white or red as a part of the print is acceptable

v Please use quilt shop quality fabrics everyone else will be using them so it isn't fair to use cheap quality fabrics (this is about quality not the price you paid for the fabrics!)

Things to remember:

v Stars that are not 6 ½ inches will be returned un-swapped

v Stars that are not well made (seams coming undone etc.) will not be swapped out.

v Stars made with a lesser quality fabric, fabric that has a rough hand or feels like cardboard will not be swapped out.

v Stars with other coloured prints than mentioned will not be swapped out.

v Stars that smell strongly of a scent or fabric softener will trigger an allergy attack so I will be physically unable to swap them out.

Adding the name tags to the blocks

v Attach a slip of paper to the back of each block with your name/location so the recipients can see where their block came from. This is easily done by sewing them on with a large stitch.

v Please do not apply sticker nametags directly to the blocks! Some people don't get round to sewing the top for a while and the adhesive can be difficult to remove after a year or two (don't ask me how I know this LOL)

v NO writing on blocks - we are not doing a siggie swap.

Mailing and postage:

v I will send an email with my address after the signup deadline has passed.

v Please include a self-addressed envelope large enough for your blocks to be returned in

v Do not apply stamps to the envelope yourself!

v Postage rates will be in the SSNswap group files in a separate document as soon as I know what the rates for 2007 are as the post office hasn't yet changed the tariffs on the website and will based on the local postal rates - we do not have fixed rate global priority envelopes here so rates will be different that people in the USA are used to.

v European swappers (and anyone else if you have them) may send Euros to cover the postage please contact me for the postage rates.

v Otherwise please pay the postage into my paypal account (it supports direct credit card payments) my email addy to use is jessamy snipped-for-privacy@orange.nl

v If and only if you can't pay with paypal (the safe option as $ has been known to vanish in the mail) you may pay for the postage with US dollars adding 1$ to cover the extra exchange costs I have to make to get euros

I think that's all there is to it

Have fun!!
