Buying findings / beads in the UK

I'm from the UK and have always found that the US has a lot more choice than we do on findings and beads, the problem with this is that sometimes places don't post over here or otherwise it is quite expensive, and when it gets here you incur import charges.

Or sometimes when I actually find something on a website its really expensive, I actually once found a really good site which had lots of selections but for the basic things were about 3 times the price of other places so I didn't bother.

I have decided to do something about this. My intention is set up a web site to sell beads and findings and end up with a good a selection as over in the US, and yet still be well priced.

I thought I'd start off small with just basic findings and then gradually expand. I was wondering if anyone had something that they find really difficult to buy in the UK. Basically its all very well me selling things that I would use but I also have to sell things that I might not use, or I might not have thought of!

Findings are easier obviously, but then again some people may use things that I don't. It'll be interesting when I start thinking about beads / pendants as other people have to like them as much as me!

So far I've got eyepins, headpins, jump rings, crimps, clasps, earring hooks, spacer bars, what I think are the basic findings. Anyone got anything that they would like sold that they have problems finding? Or just general ideas of what kind of things I should look at really!

Thank you!

Hi Flic, Back with us again, nice to see you.

Yes I would say out of the ordinary clasps would be a good idea. I mean those slide in ones. I have had to send to Germany for them but recently my lovely friends here on RCB sent me some.

I agree it is difficult to get some things. I find it a PITA when I want to do something out of one of the USA bead magazines, only to find I cannot get one particular thing that is needed in UK.

Good luck to you with your shop. Shirley

Thanks Shirley,

I kind of drifted away a when we moved house a few months ago, not that I posted much anyway, but I know where to come if I need to! Interesting that you should mention unusual clasps as I've actually come across some very unusual ones that I was humming and harring about getting. I've also come across a few different slide in clasps as well, but when you say that it makes me think of

if i'm thinking of the wrong thing please let me know! I'm glad its not just me that thinks it can be difficult, and it wouldn't be worth ordering in from the US for just that one thing. Flic

I will scan some tomorrow and email you with it if I have your email address. I also like the fold over magnetic clasps, very easy to fasten one handed. Shirley
