Don't tell Mike ...

I was playing around with the new Dove 'booth' today and managed a quick snap of some of his first beads.

He's planning on hiding them but I'm planning on making them up into something fun like a necklace with knotwork.

So, without any more ado, here's the first efforts of my poor hubby and his poor feet. Well, you will realize that he didn't use his feet to make the beads, of course but he can't sit for any length of time working because his feets hurt. That's his story and he's sticking to it!

I know they're not perfectly in focus, but the technique used to snap them quickly involved me standing near the hatch of the boat to get some sunlight, balancing the 'booth' in one hand and snapping the pic before he noticed.

He's only had about two weeks worth of trying to make beads for an hour or two each evening, the rest of the time since we bought the torch and kiln has been spent on holiday with family or simply being too tired and in pain to work. I'm pretty proud of him for what's he's accomplished already.

Wow, those would make a really cool necklace, put all together! I'm really impressed with his creativity, and variety :o) I especially like the aqua/black one in the lower right corner, and the dark one at center bottom. Would Mike be willing to sell, or trade for, a couple of 'em? ;o)

They make me think of Tinkertoys (I loved my Tinkertoys).

He's done very well. I was the same way about my firsts.

Please, no excitement, he's British!

Thanks, I think he has a future with this, he's really enjoyed his time in the SHED. I know it's hard for him with his feet right now but eventually that will get sorted out. And I'll have a ready-made source for beads.

*grin*

I wouldn't dare! LOL. He'd kill me if he knew I'd shown you guys. It's our little secret, okay?

Yup, I'm thinking of something pretty wild and crazy. I can, because I'm American! He's very reserved and British, he'd never wear a necklace like that.

When they're all ready to go, I'd be happy to send you a few. He's going to try out the kiln this weekend, and get them all annealed. He's been reading up on the whole process and will try these first. After that, I'll let you know. Eventually he does hope to produce beads for sale.

Thanks for the compliments, they mean a lot.

Me too! I loved my Tinkertoys, but they never had them over here so I had to explain them to Mike.

Such a deprived childhood he had!

Thanks. He's very picky and these would all end up in the garden if I wasn't hoarding them! I have great faith in him doing great beads eventually. It's the first time in years he's been really excited about a new style of art so I'm hoping he finds his way with glass. And it helps having a lampworker, it's an easy source of beads for ME!..

So have you thought, in the back of your mind, you'd sneak out in the shed when DH is sleeping and try some beadmaking yourself?

Oh yes, but not when he's sleeping. I had intended to make beads all along but I'm happy to wait till he's ready to share the space, as I have other interests such as making beads into stuff, and beadweaving.

I've printed this out for him, thanks!

He did some yesterday that I really like, he's getting better with each session in the SHED. I think I'll start getting him to make them to order very shortly, although he's not as satisfied with them as he could be, but then any artist is like that... there's always something to nit pick.
