Excited about new ventures: PhDl and A Day at the Creativity Spa (C)

As some of you know before I was a beadmaker and sometime jewelry maker, I was an occupational therapist for over 20 years. I've been working diligently over the past few months to re-integrate my two "identities" (hey it's that Gemini thing, eh!) into right livelihood activities. I also need to put together things I love to do that will be compatible with my other new/old thing - I'm going back to school in January to finish the PhD I had to put on hold three years ago when we moved and DH had a heart attack.

This is what I came up with, and we're running our first one this weekend on Sunday:

I'm hoping I can book one to two of these per month. The first group is handpicked guinea pigs (sorry I hope I'm not offending those of you with real guinea pigs). They get to come for free but have to give us feedback/be our focus group. And they're all people who can spread the word about this, as I think it'll be mostly word of mouth that will bring us customers. So I'm excited and anxious about starting this, and about finding ways to do school, art and occupational therapy without getting too crazy.

Sounds awesome - wish I could go.

BTW - check the text on the site, getting some weirdness like SpaÕs instead of Spa's.

Thanks for letting me know it works with a Mac - I just did a quick "save as web page" in Word when I did the original poster. And Barbara, thanks for letting me know it doesn't work on a PC. Darn that M*soft!

That is really cool! I'd say it's an effective combination... reading about it made me want to do it.

We just finished our first "Day at the Creativity Spa" and it went really well. I think I probably got at least 2 new beadmaking students from it, and an entree into the world of schoolteachers professional development days. Our guinea pigs arrived with bouquets for my studio/spa partner and me, wine and chocolates. We made "Hopes & Dreams" necklaces (painted and stamped fabric beads with wire, bead and fibre embellishment, strung with seed beads and clasps fashioned with a brass tag that says "Dream"), had some amazing food, did a beadmaking demo, and then made copper wire and bachelor bead bangles. Wow am I pooped though.

That sounds like such a blast! No wonder you're exhausted, though... that's a lot of enrichment for one day, and a lot of learning for you and your workshop participants.

Thanks Cheryl! I needed to mourn the PhD program I left (the only big regret about moving back home to Canada) before I could think about going back. I think I'm ready now.
