How do you get a knot to tighten right next to a bead? The books I've read say use a needle to guide it. I've tried that and it gets the knot near the bead - 1/8" or so - but not snug against it. What's the secret? I'm currently experimanting with a double-strand of Nymo D.

I use (one side of) diamond tweezers that end in very fine points but... I would think that's the same as using a needle to 'slide' the knot where you want it. Using a double strand may be what is keeping it from being snug against the bead. That, or it may just be a matter of practice and good eyes (or glasses in my case)! :)

Have you got the needle in the middle of the knot? You should be able to slide it all the way down to the bead. THen, before you remove the needle, put pressure on it with the thumbnail of your non-dominant hand to keep it there and tighten the knot while you remove the needle. THis works best with silk THREAD (I have used up to 4 strands at once) or similar synthetic thread; does not work quite so well with CORD.

Yep, this is what I do. I use Silamide thread for that kind of thing - it's easier to slide IMO. :)
