I took bad pictures

Jan 05, 2004 3 Replies

Took pictures of some work and am just miserable about the quality of the photos! I'll try to spend time today working on them. The cobalt photographed purple, and everything looks like a combination of too bright and too blurred. I'd better get a light box put together soon!

Cobalt is notorious for doing that... it's really hard to get a true photo of it. Don't feel bad! I'm assuming you're not using daylight... (what daylight, right?) and that makes it particularly hard to take good phoos. What camera are you using? I've struggled with taking good indoor photos for a long time, and these tips have helped:

  1. Using my macro mode (this allows the camera to focus roperly up close).
  2. Using 5100K "daylight" compact fluorescents instead of regular full-spectrum incandescent bulbs.
  3. Turning up my white balance to about +0.7

I hope that helps, at least just a little bit!

I've printed off your advice for my vis diary, I need all the help I can get with photography!

Thanks for these steps that are easy enough that even I can follow them.
