I do this too. I would go NUTS if all my laundry got washed all together. Michael used to do that to his clothes before we met...he never seperated anything...but now I am the laundry gatherer so it gets seperated like it should!

Obligatory Laundry Story: When DD was small, someone gave her matching Bert and Ernie stuffed dolls. Bert and Ernie had long black plush hair, and looked remarkably like the puppets on Sesame Street. Because the toys belonged to my daughter, it was no time at all before she barfed on them.

Normally, I would have tossed the toys, but DD loved them. So I put each doll in a pillowcase, tied the tops shut, and put Bert and Ernie in the washer. Later, Bob came along and put the laundry in the dryer.

Bert and Ernie changed ethnicity in the dryer! They were still orange and yellow, but now sported amazing Afro Natural haircuts. They even had curly eyebrows! Bob and I laughed our heads off, but DD never even noticed. We called them "the brothers from the hood" for the rest of their career here.

I am mostly the same way. Lights in one load, darks in another. I take the time about once a month or so to do an "all white" load with bleach, and if I have reds or blues that might bleed, then they go in with blacks (okay, not the reds & blues together, LOL!).

Never got taught how to do it "correctly" even when working at a laundromat! LOL!
