Kandice - Please read about kiln

Thanks Starlia. Do you mind if I ask what kind of kiln you have? Mine is specially made for annealing beads, so I am not sure anyone near here can fix it. But I will definitely check around and see. I live near Seattle, so there has to be someone here who can help. :)

Kandice -- a kiln is a kiln is a kiln they are all the same basic parts. bricks, elements, power supply, controller. the only thing that can go bad is elements -- easy to replace power supply - easy to replace controller - ouch money - replace.

Kandice if you need to batch anneal some beads just let me know - I'm less than 1/2 hour from you and it would be very cool to meet you IRL :) In fact we should try to meet sometime even if you didn't have kiln or skunk problems ;)

That's really sweet of you to offer, Pam - thank you. However, I really believe in annealing as you go. I know this is a hotly contested issue, though, so I woun't go into it. I really appreciate the offer, though! We should get together soon, though - when things settle down. :)

As Cheryl said a kiln is a kiln. They all have the same basic parts. Mine was a glass annealer too, not a ceramic kiln. However, the ceramic places are the best to go to when you have kiln problems.

yep but the MOST likely culprit - most common failure is in the elements. still costs money - but not as much as one would expect....

Who made your kiln??? They might be able to give you trouble shooting over the phone to determine the source of the problem... especially if you can do some basic testing with a meter...

:) My kiln is the Fusebox Big Blue made by EK Miller. It looks like the problem is with the relay inside the controller, according to my husband and the guy at EK Miller that he talked to earlier today. It's fixable - yey!!! Apparently, the elements in this particular kiln are guaranteed for life, and they don't burn out very often. I am really happy that EK Miller is so easy to deal with! Nice people over there. Frantz referred me to them when they didn't have an answer for me.

I love EK Miller. And they're here in Portland, which is more convenient for me than for you, but still pretty close to you.

Yep - if we ever need a part, it's easy to get , especially if we happen to be visiting the multitudes of people we know down there in Portland. :) P.S. - the kiln is now fixed!!!!!!!

I am so happy about it. It was something called a relay inside the controller. Between Ken and the guy at EK Miller, we got the relay replaced. Thank goodness! I was all set to freak out. Wait. I did. Heh. :)
