Kokoshnik - I did it. (eep)

I looked at the submission guidelines for Bead and Button and Beadwork magazines, and decided that my project fit better with the editorial attitude of Beadwork. Both places asked to be contacted before you even sent in photos or whatever, so I called the submissions number for Beadwork magazine.

I spoke with the features editor, and we looked at my webpage together. I told her about the beading my way around the world project, and how I've focused on women and beading. She asked about the next few projects on my "tour," and asked when I thought they might be done.

Apparently, I have amazing timing. Beadwork is planning a world beading issue next year and is looking for examples of international beadwork. The editor tells me that my project is "a perfect fit" for their magazine, and wanted to know if she could share my web address with the other editors of the magazine. They'll contact me within a couple of weeks to let me know their decision, and make arrangements for me to send them the pieces for professional photography.

I did mention that I wasn't sure my work was professional enough, since I've only been at this three years. Like you guys, she guffawed and told me it looked darned good to her.

So I took that step off the cliff. Stay tuned to see how it all works out. In the meantime, I think I'll keep concentrating on my beadwork, and not on throwing up. (Something about this was incredibly difficult, and I was uncharacteristically petrified about making the call. If I didn't do it now, I know I never would have)

I am so proud of you! That was a monumental step you took and by far the hardest. Now you just have to do what you plan on doing and let the Universe take care of the rest (basically). I feel the ripples already. Congratulations, Kathy!

Kathy -- bead yourself some brass balls. You have earned them.

About the world beading issue? Sometimes timing is just no coincidence.

P.S. -- this made me cry. It really did. I am so happy for you, and so proud of you for making that call. Some never get past that stage -- the ability to make that first phone call. It is monumentous, Kathy.

Love you.

He's alternating between congratulating me and teasing me: "Just because I think the beads suck, doesn't mean they suck once you're done with them. I hate them, but I know you're wicked talented."

I also got the lecture about too hard on myself and magnifying every little mistake I make. (I was wondering aloud if I had the time to make another kokoshnik, one without mistakes)

I find it rather shocking myself.

I was so hoping you would make this decision. =o)

Apparently you do. ;o)

And you will let us know when that sinks in?

Yeehaw! Your not gonna fall, you do know that, right? Your just going to fill the wind lifting you higher...but you won't fall.

Kathy,

That's great!

Would the idea be that you would write an article, or that your pieces would be featured in another article?

The story of your thought process in making these pieces and the research involved is as interesting as the finished pieces themselves!

How exciting! And yet I do understand your nausea. Youre putting something that is so personal out there for people to look at... its of you, and about you, inside you, coming out, like a baby... you have feelings for your work. Its good work. Im so glad to know a lot of people are going to have the chance to see it and admire it, and know the story behind the pieces... both historical and the personal reasons. Deep stuff there. :-) Diana
