My Grama's Christmas present (long)

Can't remember if I mentioned this here before, but over the Thanksgiving holiday, while my Grama was visiting family, her house was broken into, and she was burgled. The thieves knew her good jewelry from her costume jewelry (in true old-lady style, she's a BIG jewelry wear-er;o) LOL The saddest loss was a pearl, hung as a pendant; her mother, while visiting the coast, bit into this 8mm pearl while eating a bowl of clam chowder! So, it had her mother's tooth mark in it, and was the source of a favorite family memory.

Anyway, I'd decided that I wanted to make her some jewelry, to start helping her rebuild her cache. But I was having trouble coming up with something

*good* enough; after all, it is her GOOD jewelry that needs replacing. So, for Christmas this year, I've made my Grama the first member of Kyla's Pendant-of-the-Month Club! I bought a 18" silver snake chain, and I will hand make her a pendant to give with it, and a new pendant to hang on the chain every month for the next year. Sometimes, the pendant will be themed, to go with a current holiday, or season; sometimes, it won't;o)

Just wanted to pass this idea along to anyone else that might be trying to think up something special, for a special someone:o)

When I told my best friend about this idea, she totally jumped on it, and wanted to know how much it costs to join The Club. I told her I hadn't decided yet, mainly because I think it would be out of her price range. I'm thinking for 12mos, it would be about $200 (incl. chain....which I bought at Target tonight for $9). If I offered it in smaller increments, like 3 or 6 months, it would be more affordable, but do you think anyone would buy a "of-the-month" thing for only 3 months?

Oh, I also sat down last night, and drew out 13 different pendants (13, in case my tastes change sometime in the next year;o)

Happy happy holidays to all!!

As for buying short - term, maybe it doesn't have to be 3 consecutive months? For instance, my birthday is in August, Christmas in December and Anniversary in February. But, the purchaser would have to let you know up front what 3 months they want.

Just a thought.

That is a really good idea! Unfortunately, I am not organized enough to do it that way (hey, at least I'm honest;o) LOL I've made up a page on my still-not-live website, with pricing, etc. I did include the option to have your pendant sent to someone else for a month, or two;o)

Can you show us an example of the pendants you're thinking of?

I don't have any pictures of my work, except for all of those earrings I posted a while back. I've given everything away, and never thought to take pics beforehand, until joining this group. Now, I have just enough wire to make one pendant (maybe 2...), and can't afford anymore until DH gets another job. I will definitely take a pic when I get this one done, tho:o)

I do mainly wire-wrapping, with a bit of stringing thrown in. My favorite is the herringbone weave, and it's what I'm best at, I think (this is what I was looking for individual beads for :o)
