noob needs help controlling softflex

Hi all, I am working on my first multi-strand project, first project with softflext, and first project with crimps. All at once. :D

The bracelets I'm making are six strands, through 3-hole connecters, with

3-hole end bars. I cut 3 18" length of softflex (8" bracelet X 2 + a little extra), thread it through a hole in the end bar, center it & crimp it, then string each strand. (I hope that makes sense.)

I'm having a really hard time dealing with the softflex as I get to the end of each strand. (I'm not crimping them as I finish because I want to make sure they're all the same length...) As I'm stringing one strand, a neighboring strand will ka-SPROING and fire off a volley of seed beads. I tried some hair clips, but they didn't hold the softflex well enough. I ended up taping the strands down to my tabletop as I reached the ends, but then that kind of limited where I could move.

Any other ideas?

Gabrielle -- I wrap a piece of scotch tape around the end of the soft-flex, not taped to the table but taped to itself. So that if I pick up the piece or drop it, then I don't lose everything I have strung so far.

i just wrap tape around the end of the strand, close to the beads. not actually taping them DOWN to anything.

Thanks for all the great tips everyone...tape is cheap & on-hand (who wants to go shopping today? ick) so I'll try this method.
