Not really OT: Ebay question

I'm such a noobie about Ebay and I know someone out here in RCB can answer my question. There were, and are, some beads that I'd really like to own. Everytime I make a bid I'm automatically outbid. How can I tell what the max that is currently offered? It doesn't seem fair that I can't tell how much the current bidder is willing to pay. That would tell me whether or not I want to try to outbid her/him. I can understand it to a degree - why pay more than necessary but how about not wasting my time making bids if someone already has a hold on the item? (Okay, it's kind of obvious that I'm a bit miffed about this. I know that's not nice but it seems like I'm spinning my wheels making bids when someone already has said they'd pay that amount.)

I have often wondered about eSnipe and what happens if several sniper bids are placed in the last second of the auction... does eBay take a moment after the auction ends to calculate all the competing proxies before declaring a win?

Darlin', who KNEW??? But NOW I know you have a bend in that direction, and I will be keeping my eyes peeled.....a friend wants to do one with Elvis's head and the Sacred Heart of Jeebus Robes picture (you know the one with the burny heart??) stuck together.
