OT: Dog Story

I'm just getting my life back after taking care of my neighbor's 4 dogs while they went out of town for a week. (They took #5 with them!) Two of them stayed at my house, so we had five here, and then I had to go over to take care of the other two 3x/day. Whew!

The two that stayed here are two that just showed up (together)and my neighbor took them in. One is a homely but sweet little mutt, Sammy, and the other is a big, beautiful yellow lab named Winston (Winnie). Sammy can't come in the house because he hikes his leg on everything, but Winnie kept trying to come in, and finally we gave up and let him stay in.

One evening, I went into the bedroom and sat on my bed to make a phone call, Winnie followed and hopped on the bed next to me. Well, I think you could have seen Spike's jaw hit the floor. He looked at Winnie, and looked at me, and looked back at Winnie. I could tell, he was thinking, "But you NEVER let ME on the bed!!!" (Before you think he's neglected, he is allowed to put his front feet up for a cuddle, hubby just doesn't like him sleeping on the bed. Also, he has his own bed next to ours.) I just had to laugh. Poor Spike.

Here's a few pictures:

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. Trinkett and I were on the couch. She is only 5 pounds. The two big dogs aren't allowed on the couch. However, Smudges the Lab came up to me and laid right beside me. I couldn't help myself. Trinkett was MAD! Tolak was looking at me like I had lost my mind. Too funny.

Bonus Sophie Anecdote: Sophie is not allowed on the furniture, and she knows it. However, when DH and I were separated (~5 years ago), every morning when I woke up, I'd have a tiny dog on the bed with me. I know that there was no dog there when I went to sleep, but invariably there would be a small dog taking up a disproportionate amount of space on the bed when I woke up.

I could never figure out how the dog knew that I was asleep enough to not wake up when she jumped on the bed. One day when I had a cold, DD figured it out.

"Mama, I figured out how Sophie knows you're sleeping! You snore real loud, and the second you started snoring, Sophie went a-running down the hall to your bedroom. She must know that snoring means that Mama's sleeping!"

The kid was right. As soon as I got my CPAP, no more snoring, and no more little dog trying to get on the bed.
