OT: giving up control

I have a turkey in the oven and I'm using the temperature probe thingy for the first time. I hope I don't have a burnt sacrifice when all is said and done.

I have one of those probe-timers like Alton Brown from Good Eats (FoodTV). I absolutely love the darned thing! It's accurate and really does let me quit worrying. Surrender!

Dan loves Alton. It's good to know that those gadgets really work. I'm slowly getting them for him.

I would briefly consider leaving DH for Alton Brown.

NOw I get to be smacked once he realises who that is, since he's reading over my shoulder:)

I assume you've already eaten by now. I go by 20 min per pound and always have a yummy juicy turkey. I make my own stuffing too. Darn, now I'm getting hungry.

Alton Brown ROCKS!!!!! I love watching his show. He is totally knowledgeable about all things food (or he seems to be). I am a good cook, but I still learn things from watching him and the other chefs on the Food Network. My other favorite is Paula Deen. She makes some yummy looking southern cooking stuff!

Dan loves Alton and records all his shows. I'm the one who gets to write out all the dang recipes and tips. DH wants all his books and he has a new book coming out next month.

It's so funny to see DH in the kitchen. For years I wouldn't let him near it because everything he cooked was horrible. Now I enjoy all his off the wall stuff and he is becoming pretty good.

Oh Starlia, don't write the things down. The Food network site has the recipes all ready to print out. Save your energy for tasting all those goodies.

Now why didn't I think of that? I'm going to print them off tomorrow while he is at work and pretend I did so much work for him. LOL

Yup, what Kathy said!!! I have two notebooks full of printed-out recipes. (And have actually used some!)

Well, it worked like a charm - it 'dinged' about 5 minutes after the button popped on the bird, so it's very accurate. The thing I liked about it was that it plugs directly into the oven and you can monitor the internal temperature on the display screen on the front of the oven. That way I knew how much longer I had before starting the veggies and stuff. No guesswork, lol, and lots of leftovers.
