OT: Happy Holidays & The Story of Lilyflower

Best wishes to all for a wonderful and enjoyable holiday, whatever and however you are celebrating!! And most of all, I hope there is a least one bead involved!!

I'll bet you thought that "Lilyflower" may have come from Easter memories?!? After all Easter lilies are one of the first things one might think of - the classical lily. Actually that's far from how it happened.

One weekend long ago, my son way playing in a chess tournament in Vermont, which gave me a lot of extra time to kill. I love to wander along country roads, just to explore. So I went off the main highway over a bridge and meandered until I saw a sign for a lily farm. Having never heard of such a thing, my curiousity was piqued.

A lily farm is a thing of wonder, somewhat like a painting in real life. This particular farm was in at least its second or third human generation and had known lily strains and their own hybrids. It bloomed all summer with diffferent lilies at different times. Oh, the colors!! I don't think that orange "tiger lily" you all know was even there!! They ranged from almost white to the deepest purple, with lots of yellow, peach, rose, garnet, purple (dare I say amythest) and even a green resembling peridot. I just had to have a few and settled on three strains. That was a long time ago and they have managed to survive my sporadic attentions.

From then on I was hooked and love lilies, so what better name than

"Lilyflower" to be related to my jewelry.

Peace, Lilyflower lilyflower @ theworld.com

I never would have guessed the reason behind your "name." I used to have a (tiny) lily garden when we lived in north GA. The soil and rain there made them grow like crazy. I only had about six different kinds, but they kept growing and I kept dividing to make more and more lily plants.

Too bad you cannot do that with beads. ;-)
