OT: HELP THE PETS

I thought I would share this post from the Labrador newsgroup. Some of you might be able to help.

Bettina & her Labrador Cheyenne..

" We've lived thru hurricane charley and we escaped unscathed. The major damage and destruction starts less than 5 miles from home. Its been hard to deal with, sitting so close and not having any damage, yet our "neighbors" are suffering so much.

There are so many homeless pets right now. Its sad to see them. Pets are being found and turned in. But also many people are homeless right now, and have to find temporary housing or shelters to live in, most of which do not take pets, so they are dropping their pets off at the humane society to have a new home found for them.

Its heart wrenching.

CHARLEY:PETS IN NEED OF HOMES

The people on the front lines of animal rescue are working 24/7 in Charley's wake. They say scared and traumatized pets are just starting to come out of hiding. In Charlotte county, it's a full house at the Suncoast Humane Society in Englewood. Right now they've got about 175 lost or displaced dogs and cats. Most of them are lost, and few have I-D's. So, reuniting them with their owners won't be easy. Some will be fostered out to temporary homes while their owners find a place to stay. And there are those surrendered by owners who aren't sure if they'll ever recover from Charley. Suncoast is relying on other agencies and shelters to take adoptable pets as they continue to fill up with some of the littlest refugees of Hurricane Charley. If you'd like to contribute, volunteer, or become a foster family to lost pets call the Suncoast Humane Society "
