OT I got a new job!!!!!

I have not been able to work in the office from hell since last week as they are paiting and I had a severe allergic reaction to the paint fumes. After the second visit to the doctor with a thorat so constricted I could barely get any air into my lungs, she wanted to direct admit me to the hospital. Needless to say, I am *not* being compensated salary-wise for any time I am being forced to miss because of their stupidity.

I did call OSHA, however, and because the office manager did not tell us prior to the start of the painting, "We will be painting the office and the paint may contain chemicals that could be hazardous to your health", they are in direct violation of OSHA regulations and I can file a complaint.

Which I will do as soon as I go in tomorrow to collect my computer speakers, my coffee mug and my photo of mom (can you tell I prepared for this a long time ago?) because I START A NEW JOB ON MONDAY!

I've been actively job-hunting without luck for over a year but I went on an intervview tonight and they hired me on the spot. A slight cut in pay but much better benefits (health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, pension plan and bonuses), close to home, and two girls that used to work in the office from hell and quit have been there ever since.

So yeehaw for me and pblpblpbl to the idiots I used to work for. They are getting no notice and they don't deserve one.

A very happy and excited

Yeah for you. I bet you'll be happy at the new job. Be sure to follow up on that complaint with OSHA. You can also file a workman comp claim to recoup your wage loss and doctor's fees.

Thank you, God. Linda2, I'll have to call my mother on Monday, because she asks about you and your job situation quite often.

The first thing I did when I returned to my car after being hired was reach for my cell phone to call my mom with the good news. Then I realized she already knew.

Linda,

That's great news!

Good luck on your new life.

But don't forget (or procrastinate away your plans) to file with OSHA in the excitement :)

Congratulations, Linda!

I'm looking for work (a boring story), but it seems that nobody wants an old fart like me (someone over 40) for the type of work I'm targeting (administrative assistant for a non-profit organization). They'd rather have someone in their early 20's with a business degree who they can pay next-to-nothing, instead of someone like me (no college, but I've worked for 20+ years), who they can pay next-to-nothing. Oh well.

If anyone has good job-finding vibes, please feel free to send them my way.

Cheers, Turtlelover

I tried. I called them and asked to file a complaint. Spoke to a different person who said since I am no longer and employee, I can't file a complaint, and if I did, it would have to be against the painting contractor, not my employer.

Florida law is NOT on the side of the employee, believe me. I've missed six days of work and can't file unemployment because you have to miss SEVEN days.

Who cares now. I'm out of there and they'll be sorry when the A/R piles up again.

That is wierd... you'd think that OSHA would be worried about making sure it was safe for EVERYBODY, not just whether you personally still had some value in your complaint...

Oh well. The good thing is that you can go to your new job with a

100% "it was meant to be" feeling.
