Got a job at Michaels!

I got a part time seasonal job at Michaels craft store, to supplement my income from my part-time job at an afterschool program. I get a 25% discount, and no, I won't buy you guys anything even though I love you all, because I am pathologically ethical. Now I'm scared I'm going to spend my whole paycheck there.

Congratulations! Thats a great discount! Just give yourself a $ limit weekly, so as not to overspend! LOL

Congrats on the new job! I couldn't work there, I'm not responsible enough. LOL! I would be working for free (my whole check would be spent there).

I'd love to work someplace like that part-time. But, I'm like everyone else. It'd be worthless. I'd never bring any money home. Congrats by the way. Hope you have fun.

cool! I'd love to work there but here you have to be snippy, clueless and have a bad attitude! So of course you wouldn't fit in either! LOLOL I hope you have a blast!

Heh. Yeah, I know what you mean.

Actually, at orientation, they showed a video all about their preferred sales approach. They don't want you to be all up in someone's face with "Hi, good morning, how are you may I help you?" because a big portion of their customers know exactly what they want, don't need any help, don't want to talk to anyone, and just want to get back home and finish their projects. Nor do they want us to totally ignore someone while we're stocking shelves or sweeping up a spill or whatever. What they want us to do is just say "Hi" and let the customer either go about their business or come up and ask us if they need help. That's pretty much been my experience there. When I really need help, I can get it, no problem. When I just want to look around, I'm left alone.

As far as the clueless bit goes, I'd be pretty amazed if anyone knew everything there is to know about all the products. There's just so damn many, and some crafts are so specialized. I'm probably pretty clueless myself, since most of the crafts I am familiar with involve things like paper plates, egg cartons, toilet paper rolls, and anything else we can for free/cheap.

Well, at the store where I work, floor and cashiers are the same people. We all take turns.

Hey good luck with your job and you right there is a lot of stuff at Michaels. I totally understand about being clueless in Michaels. There are so many varied things there. I think the idea is if you don't know where it is don't give up looking. I've had Michael employees just say "No we don't carry that" and after some more looking around I'll find it. When I'm working on a craft I get on a mission. I'm that pitbull that won't let go. :D

Does that include sale items? To be quite honest, I'd prolly be using the discount on Christmas village items more than sb stuff, if it was my discount to use. Enjoy yourself Luna. As a shopper I know it gets crazy in there during the holidays. I can only imagine what it's like from the inside.

Congratulations! Don't spend all your paycheck there. :-) Maybe if you limit yourself? Oh, and don't listen to Kenda, she'll convince you that you need whatever it is that you want. *ducks any flying objects from Kenda's way*
