I once read a suggestion that we schedule all our major health tests for on our birthday. There would be no way you could forget to do that.. right? Think about it, what a wonderful birthday gift you would be giving yourself, the assurance that all is well.. or the early catching of something bad.. Diana

Yep, very important. Just had mine. We want to be healthy beaders/jewelers for many years to come!

For most of us, by the time we need mammograms, we're not so firm we can't squish. And it's a lot more important than some slight brief discomfort.

Tina

I resemble that remark...LOL (squishy that is...) I've never understood why people complain - mine have never bothered me other than a brief squeeze --- although I suppose some people are more sensitive than others.

This is a true story. A friend of mine is 26 years old. She knew she had irregular pap smears for years. The doctors kept burning off part of her cervix but they couldn't seem to cure the problem. Finally they said, "It's cancer. You need to have half your cervix removed - one day in the hospital and a few weeks at home to recuperate." Well for a couple of stupid reasons, she didn't want to do it. They were busy at work and needed her. And she had no one to turn to when she got home from the hospital to help her out with her

4YO son. (I was unemployed and offered several times but she refused.) Well several weeks later, she finally had it done.

Now she's found a lump in her breast. The biopsy has shown it to be a very aggressive form of cancer. Did this spread from her cervix? I don't know, but it's certainly possible. She has to undergo extensive chemo. I don't know how she's going to handle it. All I can say to everyone reading this is: Don't fool around with your health. It's not worth taking chances with. Please. Schedule your tests and follow through.

I've never know a facility not to have a sliding scale for mamograms, and also for the ultra sound if you need that also, as I do.

i'll try one more time. but the last time i checked, the fact that i was employed at all disqualified me. and then there's always all the "proof" they want. and end up so angry i just give up. but i'll check one more time.

If your state has WIC, I believe mammograms and pap smears are covered under that.

You must have known we wouldn't let you off that easy. Cheri (Bubbee to Emily and Nathan)

Sadly, this is true. We live in a country where many people lack access to preventative care.

no - the requirements for all those things are too much. as far as they are concerned, i HAVE a job. if it doesn't come with benefits - too bad. once you are employed - esp. self-employed - you are on your own.

Try "women's medical services". They are much less invasive. Even if you have to go to a bigger community. I knew Sac has those facilities, and surely a University toewn like Chico will too.
