OT - request for volunteer

Hi everyone - I would like to request that someone take over the Rebekah auction project, please. It's turning into a much larger project than I had anticipated - much more involved than when I did the auctions for Carol a year ago. I love doing it, but I am finding that I just do not have the time to devote to it anymore. I will keep taking donations until someone volunteers or for two more weeks - which ever comes first. Please do think about it first - this project takes a lot of time and effort, and you must be able to devote that time. Also, Rachel must approve before we exchange information. Once I get a volunteer and Rachel approves, I will finish the auctions that remain and send the money I have collected to Rebekah's family. At that time, I will send all donations that have not been auctioned to the person taking over. You must also be able to host the Rebekah Auctions page - or I will need to take it down. I can send all the information for that as well. If you're interested, please email me and we'll go from there. Thank you to all!!

What if we divided them up? I don't know how many there are still coming, but for example, I could take 10 and post them, someone else could take the next 10, etc........................

If I had a *(%$*%)^$$# camera I could do this! Lord knows I have the time to devote to it. >cranky cause I can't offer<

But what if I sent you a camera? I have an extra one around here for you to use. I really want to participate but with my head these days I would have to take it easy. This way we could both participate. What do you think?

I think that would be wonderful Starlia. Candace, do you have a way to host the web page? If so, I think that would be a perfect solution, especially since I know both of you want to do something to help out. Thank you both so much for offering - this would really be terrific.

After I had Adam read your post to verify what I was reading (cause I went all dumbstruck) and I had gotten over the glee, my brain kicked in and here's what it came up with. If the eBay Princess auctions get split between multiple people, won't that be an awful lot of folks that would need Rachel's family's information? Right now, Kandice is the only person with it, so it's nice and contained. How would they feel about more than one person knowing their info?

Just something to consider. Oh and---tease me some more..were you talking about a digital camera? *whimpers*

I don't have a paid web space, no. Would that be needed, or would a free site work just as well? Or (I'm thinking outloud here, sorry) can Starlia help on that end of it? What I do have is desire, time, willingness and desire to help:) And I actually talked it over with Adam just now--he agrees with me that I *could* help in this way. (This is a biggie, had to talk it over with the other half)

You can use my webspace. I'll set up something for you.

I think it would be better to have just one or two other people. I know Rebekah's family is not comfortable with handing out info to a whole lot of people. Plus, passing it around would be a lot of added work.

It's only one page, so I think free hosting would be fine, or Starlia might host it on her website. It depends on how many images the page would have and how much bandwidth is allowed on whatever free server is involved. Of course maybe we have some kind hearted individuals with servers here on the newsgroup that wouldn't mind donating some webspace?

Starlia, once we have everything changed up, I can send you the HTML for the page and you can just copy it to your server if you like - except for my personal images - everything else you can have, if you like. Whatever works for you!

Ok, so what if some of us hosted some auctions, and then we collected the money and sent it to Kandice or Rachel to send on to the family? Say, I hosted 10 auctions, added up my totals and then I could either write a check to Kandice or Rachel, or if the family felt comfortable giving out their name, I could write it to them, but I wouldn't need their address or any other info and could just pass the check to someone closer to the family that could give it to them.

That sounds wonderful. I was just on the phone with Candace and we had discussed the same thing. I really appreciate your help.

I just got off the phone with Starlia, and we are in for this--she'll send me the camera and donate the web space, and I'll do the auctions and shipping and all the other good stuff. Now, Kandice, is this where you tell me that in order to do this, I have to shave my head, pull a tooth, break a finger and sell a mansion? Or is it not _quite_ as hard as all that:) So yeah--you've got some volunteers:) Can you run us past Rachel, please?

This is pretty much what I'm doing in the Orphan Beads Auctions--only I'm not ever in possession of the items donated.

Or you could do what I did, just send Rachel the auction proceeds in postal money orders, made payable to the mom of the Princess (I just wrote her name in and left it up to her to fill in the address section, etc.) Our customers contributed $600 to the Princess Fund, and we sent this along to Rachel as six $100 postal money orders. I wanted Rachel's family to be able to cash these as needed, which might mean when they are on the road or in Columbus, with the minimum amount of hassle. One can cash postal money orders at any post office using a driver's license as an ID - no need to open a Paypal account, special bank account, wait for out of state checks to clear, etc. Plus, they are very easy to replace should they be lost or stolen. Rachel posted a new thread letting us all know she was in agreement about all this - we just need to let her know what's up when it's all ironed out. I can email her when we have it all figured out. No tooth-pulling necessary! We just have to agree on a time to switch over, and it's all good. I still have some stuff here that hasn't been auctioned yet - I can send it to you if you like. I will keep hosting the auctions that are up now, and when they are done with, I will calculate the money and send it to Rachel. If Starlia needs the HTML content of the web page, I can send that to her on email, or she can copy it any way she likes. All I ask is that my personal graphics be left off the page. The princess graphic is of course all yours! If I am forgetting something, please feel free to ask or add it in!

Thank you SO MUCH for all you've done! You really came through on this, and have handled everything just beautifully, especially given the sheer unexpected volume.

Perhaps everyone can handle their own Princess auctions from here out?
