]Thanks. And the idea of determining the quality at the computer end ]makes sense...

i use "Music Match" for just about everything - and it does have settings for equalizing sound and quality of sound when importing from CDs. once the music is 'run through' something like that, you should be able to just upload it to the mp3 player.

C Crane makes a radio like you're all talking about. You can either wind it up with a crank, plug it in or use the solar panel. I heard about it on AM radio (late night, Coast to Coast AM used to be Art Bell - can you tell I'm a night owl?) I'll admit it's not a little MP3 player but it is a self sufficient radio (like when the power goes out, you have other options than just plugging it in) It also comes with a little light that works off whatever power source is being used. Haven't got one. Can't afford it (yet) but it sounds plausible.

Very cool. I had heard about the technology, but didn't know the name of the company. Even if it goes no further than plate glass windows, the energy savings would be tremendous. Also, it seems the costing could be added to the outside of vehicles. From what I know of photo electric energy, it wouldn't replace grid power, but it could certainly reduce the dependence. And they have made some leaps in yield on photoelectricity lately...
