OT - Totally my new favorite acronym!

A lady I know works for the eye bank, and she coined an acronym that cracks me up - "WYDJS", pronounced "widges". She went to one of the hospitals on a donor call one day a couple of months ago, and when she got there this young nurse told her that the family had changed their minds and was totally flipping out. All innocence, the nurse told her that she'd "already prepped the donor".

"Um, wait, what do you mean, 'Prepped the donor'?" said Eye Bank lady. "You guys aren't supposed to do ANYTHING until we've come and interviewed the family."

"I iced the donation areas!" said the nurse.

So the family had arrived and gone in to see their departed loved one, and the nurse had COVERED HIS HEAD AND ABDOMEN IN ICE.

Eye Bank lady was totally floored. "OK wait, NO. You guys are not to touch anything until after we get clearance from the family. Nothing at all. You just leave the donor in the room and wait for us to arrive." she said.

"OK, well, maybe there are some brief directions, something easy to remember, an acronym or something, that we can use to remind of of how we handle donors?" said Nurse.

Eye Bank lady thought for a second, and then said "OK how about this: WYDJS. Whatever You're Doing, Just Stop."

I laughed and laughed when I heard that. I can't help it; that's got to be the most useful acronym EVER.

I'm going to have to tell my co-workers about that. We so need that acronym here.

I am a medical transcriptionist and our newsgroup (sci.med.transcription) would just love this story. Do you mind if I copy and paste it to them?

Are there other MTs on this group? (I'm fairly new here.)

I've recently discovered that quite a few MTs (medical transcriptionists) seem to need a creative outlet. Many people I know sew. A few write (I used to many moons ago and may some day attempt it again).

I never knew I had a creative/crafty side until recently. I took a bead/jewelry class at Michael's about a year ago and enjoyed it. I've been playing with making jewelry off and on since. Most of my Christmas gifts were candles and/or jewelry.

I just started playing with polymer clay about a month or two ago. I'm not very good with it, but it's fun.

I just got my rings yesterday and started right in making chain maille bracelets. I've completed 2 already - very very basic weaves. But, once I get the hang of it, I will have fun dressing them up with beads.

That was just added to lexicon.

It's so useful around toddlers, too, don't you think?

:LOL! I read that definition and by the third sentence, all I could hear was the teacher's voice from Peanuts (wah-whah-wha-whoa).
