Could someone please explain "blog" I think it has totally gone by me. Most words only expressed in capital letters to shorten the word are totally lost on me/ (word blindness) I pass them by, since they are often a frustration. With all this talk about "blog", I need help with this, so it becomes clear what it means.
Thank you
Els

Els:
I believe it stands for "web log," as in an online journal. Just another odd contraction. (Sort of like my little cat whose name is "Little Bit," supposed to be shortened to "li'l Bit" but who I always call "LiBit.")

Els, The following is a URL for an acronym finder database. I find it comes in handy and keep it on my "Favorite Sites" listing in Internet Explorer.

It is kind of like a diary on the Internet. It is a record kept by an individual, but it open for others to read. SOme people have blogs to record specific things - like knitting projects, gardening projects, weight loss, and the like, while others have them to record their daily lives.

Thanks Katherine for the additional information. It is clear now....I am just a bit slow sometimes....LOL, so it is nice when I get some good explanations, just to stay in tune. Also, I can understand better what the tread from Ranee was all about.

Dear Carey a big hug for you. I was looking for the spelling of the word "acronym", this afternoon, however, it can become very difficult to find a word if you do not at least have a bit of the word to start you off. But I have also learned that there are always people around to help you if you just ask for help. Thanks guys you are a great bunch.
As long as we are talking to gether we will learn to listen and to share.
For everyone in the conversation on religion and blogs, if we all listen a bit more, and say a bit less, we will get there. I would not want to miss any of you no matter what your believes are. I was raised with out a religeon. I love all the blessings I get form all of you, no matter what religion it originates in. The bases of most all religions are for caring, love and sharing. I have found it the many years here that that is exactly what you all have shared with me. Thank you Els

Hi Els,
I love the way you put your feelings. I do agree that no matter what we are I feel we are all blessed to be in such a thoughtful caring group.

I am not going to any blogs, personal journals, should be personal, like a talk between you and yourself. Blogs in the end becomes to personal for me, and I have enough personal things to content with in my own life....LOL

Who needs a blog when we have the Google archives? (Okay, they're better for photographs.)

Elsje thank you for taking the words out of my heart ,,, i have no intention to join blogs, for the same reason ,. We laready have lists and ngs , it is really enough , we also need to do other things , read books etc,,,, When the delicate line of Personal and Public is so endangered , i don`t want to be part of it. For the same reason i don`t watch any reality tv show ,that look at people who live in houses , nore the peole who do weird stuff like eating ??? In a world that gets more and more Similar , we have to have some privacy !!! For many reasons, pshcological , sociological etc.. mirjam

I have my own "LOG" , which is NOT a "blog", because it is only on MY own computer, it is only for ME! I don't think I am a person who would be comfortable with a LOG on the web. I like to talk with people, I think I am open minded, but I am way too privat for a blog.
I have played with the thought to have a home site, Becuse I would love to CONSTRUCT one! But I don't know what I would like to put there; How I would feel about it. (may be I should construct one for my own computer!LOL!)
In fact I don't feel quite comfortable with my photosite either, thinking that anyone can see it :o( But I try to bring up myself a bit.... ....thinkig that it is mainly YOU, who look at my finished work, and my beautiful view!LOL!
I am glad other people are different from me! If not, WHERE should we then find all the wonderful links we use for inspiration???

Some of the fiber blogs are less personal, more like show & tell, but honestly I don't have time to keep up with any, and certainly don't have enough motivation to create one. I can't even keep my web site up to date, for goodness sake! Still, there are times when It would be fun to show off an FO instead of just talking about it.

Mirjam, as far as I know, you don't "join" a blog. You read it, and if there is something you'd like to comment on, you can. There is only one blog I read, and I haven't yet posted any comments on it.
The blog I read is really focussed on her knitting and spinning. This lady is an expert knitter, and a learning spinner and there are lots of wonderful pictures of her projects, present and past. She doesn't cross any lines on the personal side. Her blog is a lot less personal than some of the stuff posted on this newsgroup.
I don't watch reality shows either - don't like 'em.

Els I haven't seen it written here, so here's an additional little piece of information. The word "blog" is actually a short form of "Weblog".
I only read one blog - it's by a knitter who has also taken up spinning. It's called Wendyknits

and in it she showspictures of current and past projects, lots of cute pictures of her pet cat,and pretty much chats only about her craft. She is an excellent knitter andhas picked up spinning very quickly. I believe some of her designs havebeen featured in Knitters magazine and she is in the process of writing abook. I find her blog extremely interesting and informative, and the pictures of her projects the same. I've stopped in a few others, but hers is the only one I read regularly.
