totally OT

Five days ago my doc doubled my anti-seizure med. because my migraines were coming back every other day for three weeks. The medicine is taking me away agian. I can't think, drive, relate, remember. Just like last winter. I don't know how long it will last again. It's scary, so I'm calling on my friends. Then I won't be toooo scared, jsut resting and waiting to adjust. Thanks.

We're here for you, Karen dear. So sorry to hear of this latest cruel twist in your health road. You got through it last time - however difficult it was. You will again. Keep resting and not fighting it. Just let it do its work. Banish the words 'should', 'ought' and 'must' from your vocabulary - at least for the moment! . My 2 emails to you bounced so I'm writing here: (The rest of you can ignore this please)

CALL your Dr. Tell him what is going on. Your dosage may be too high. You may only need 1.5 pills to do the trick. It's easier to 'raise' the level in smaller increments. You may be as sensitive to meds like I am. One pill, I can only take 1/4 of and it works better than a whole one...that puts me in LaLa land. Another I have to take every 8 hours--yes, day and night, to keep functioning, .more than that and I'm OUT like a light and it affects my memory something awful.

I'm wondering why he has you on that type of med when they have some NEW Migraine tablets that can 'break' the cycle? Have you tried AXERT? You take one at the very onset of it and then another one hour later IF you need it. So far this has been the best for both my son and I.(DS's was caused by flourescent lighting--he now has regular lights on each side of his compie at work) Has he given you a shot in the back of the head along with the nausea one? That broke it when I was getting them every day for a coupla weeks. Has he checked your vision while you are having one--i.e.--READING the vision chart? (They did that for DS at the Mayo Hospital--they could tell how severe it was by how/what/if he could read it) Have you had an MRI to rule everything else out?

I'm sorry you are having such trouble.

PLEASE call him.

Dear Karen, I also take anti-seizure meds for pain. The last time the dose was increased I swear I drooled for a solid week.

Don't be scared. You have many friends who care about you. Just slow down, take this time to relax and don't fight it. Give your body and mind a break. Soon enough you will be adjusted to teh new dose and all will be right again. Until then, be extra kind to youself and don't try to start anything new.

Hugs, Sunny (Been there, done that)

{{{{{{{{{Karen}}}}}}}}}}} i do hope all works out quickly for you. this c'aint be much fun at all. damn'd if you do and damn'd if you dont. lets see migraines or CRS syndrome from the meds, difficult choice.

can someone, i dont expect Karen to in her currenty state, please explain to me why anti seizure drug is used for migraine headaches? i also dont understand why doubleing the dosage is the best option. sounds like a lot to double it. ok ok, so i know pretty much zilch about medicines. that is why i'm asking. we just had a story on tv from usa about all the Rx drugs dispensed that do not even have FDA approval. that means they've not been thoroughly tested for safety and side effects. that sounds scarey to me. how can they sell drugs, both OTC and Rx that are not tested and approved? i'm gonna go search the net for more info on that issue. not being a pita, just asking as i just dont get it. confuzzled in the south pacific, jeanne
