We have one SM here that purrs like a full kitten when we give it a new Schmetz jeans needle. The best price we've found is 100 for $49 over at AllBrands.com. The needles are packaged in a sturdy wee box much like an old-timey match box. I was just wondering if this is the best price available. Anyone? Polly
I like to do my part to bolster the economy, Jenn, but that might be just a little out of my league. Polly
"Jennifer in Ottawa" How about $2,250 for 500x45mm Olfa blades!!! - that works out to $5 per blade and that also saves you $250 off their regular price.
I either get my with the coupon from JoAnn's or else I will order them with a friend from Hancock of Paducah. $28.80 for a package of 10 for Olfa's. If we order above their minimum I don't have to pay sales tax (8.75% now) or shipping.
I order from Discount Embroidery Supply. Each 5 needle pack of jeans needles is .85 and you have to order at least five packs (25 needles total) If you want 100 needles, that's what? 20 packs times .85 or $17. Good prices, good service.

Maybe I missed something but I did a 'test' order there and the charge was $50 for 100 Schmetz denim needles - with free shipping. Still. That beats most places. While there I looked for rotary blades - none and Aurifil 50 wt. Wow! They have the colors (white, black, off-white, gray) that I sometimes need at a much better price than anywhere else. Carmen Warehouse only carries a few colors and although the price is better, sometimes you've just got have a special one. Free shipping is always good but really nice with a pound of thread. Thank you, Marcella. Polly
I notice you weren't 'brand specific' here, Polly. Some answers have mentioned Olfa, some haven't.
As the price of blades here would make you wince, can I just pass on my experience with non-Olfa blades: trying to spend less on blades, I bought 'others'. The were OK, and, as I never time the number of hours in the cutter, I didn't know whether they lasted a shorter time. However, then I bought a small bulk box (10) of Olfa at a show, with a few pounds off. I hadn't really noticed the change going from an old good blade to a not so good blade; but WOW I certainly noticed going from a bad blade to an Olfa blade - through the fabric like butter, hardly any pressure, no nicks on the edge and they each lasted ... ... sooooo much longer. So, saving a bit here and there might not be worthwhile?
(When I last bought an individual Olfa blade - £3.50). Phew!
Yes, Doc, I have sharpeners and I do use them from time to time, if I am on my last blade; but not regularly, as the blade deteriorates a little each time IME. . In message , Polly Esther writes
I resharpen mine if they are just blunt, but sometimes they end up with a chip or nick on the blade which is harder to get out and will leave a very annoying one or two threads uncut every rotation of the blade.
