Celebration of Needlework Report

Hi to the group

Other than breaking out in an allergic rash all over my arms I had a very good time. In the Shaker Sampler Class, Betsy Stinner did an awesome job. She gave a great lecture on the history of the Shakers and in between she showed us how to do the stitches and the kit is full of silk threads including Soie Perlee and Trebizond. I have never used either of these before. Betsy's doodle design works up into a small tuck pillow or clock inset. She also showed off my temari and christening gown and heaped more praise on me for the quality of my work. I would definitely take another class from her as she gives historical background lectures during all her classes. I heard her Mary Queen of Scots Sampler class is great.

The Breast Cancer evening event was a riot. I did not win any of the silent auctions, but my friend Georgette and Meg St. John did. There was a kit be Susan Greening Davis, and fabrics, needles and threaders as favors. We also played a game "win/no win. It was hilarious and I ended up with a $44 crystal jar with a needle work inset lid. There was also a wonderful dessert bar with plenty chocolate and a build your own Sundae sections .The event raised $6750 for the Dana Faber Cancer Center.

My sister Gerianne won 2 of the raffle baskets. She won the Hardanger basket with the Godiva Chocolate, and the Cross Wing chart with the Snowman, frame and painted fabric. She ended up giving that to Georgette. Cheryl Issak won the "little Doodler" lap frame basket. I called her from the raffle to tell her and she came right over to pick it up. One of the girls from our table at the night event won a raffle gift, but I forget what it was.

The big news is that I won the Mystery Box!!!!!! =-O :-D It had more than 100 patterns in it, mostly punchneedle designs. I happily shared some with people at the raffle and sorted out 25 that I really liked. I don't know what to do with the rest??? I still have 58 patterns. Please let me know if there is a style or design that you might like. I may try to put them on ebay, but probably not til winter.

Ok, what did I buy. I got to talk with Terrence Nolan at Dimples Design and bought an over one ladybug kit ( it is a new Wee Beasties). At Brit Stitch I bought The Nutmeg Miniatures "The Church". I also bought an Ivory Piano Key scrimshaw measure and thread winder (with Ladybugs on it), 2 Celtic Mother of pearl thread winders, three Weeks Dye Works #5 pearl, a Doodler Lap frame, an add on magnetic board holder for my K's Creation Floor Stand, and several other items. My Friend Georgette found a Ladybug thread cutter and bought it as a gift for me.

I haven't a clue. This is the second time its happened although the last time it was both my legs from the knee down back in August. I haven't changed detergents, soaps, shampoo etc. It is very Itchy almost sore to touch and very fine bumps. My left arm was worse than the right. (I am right handed). I do have allergies to IVP Dyes, Shellfish and sulfa medicines. I also take benadryl every night as a sleep aid (on my doctor's advise) as part of my Fibromyalgia therapy. No change in medications in more than four months.

Are you allergic to anything at all that you know of? And are you married?

The reason I ask is that there was a very interesting article in the NY Times magazine recently about a woman who presented with a terrible rash. They couldn't figure out what caused it. It *looked* like an allergic reaction, but she hadn't been in contact with any pencillin that she could think of. Well, it turned out her husband was taking penicllin for an ear infection and she was exposed to the pencillin when they had (how do I put this delicately?) relations!

I'm not as well read on the fibro aspect as I am on the CFS aspect, but weird systemic rashes are not unusual in those of us who have whacked-out immune systems. I quite frequently get an unexplained rash around my middle, when nothing's touched it other than my T-shirt and my bath water.

I don't know if it's your fibro or not, but this happens to me also. Not so much as the rash, but the itching on my lower legs is insane. So, now I use a dry brush on them before I shower and it removes the dead skin cells. My doctor told me my skin gets very dry on my limbs and I use body butter to help.

I read recently that the skin over the shinbone is the dryest spot on the whole body. (And I have the shinbones to prove it, too!)

Does anyone else get "dry itchies" all over, as I do, just as I'm ready to fall asleep? It's as if, as soon as my mind begins to shut down, I can "hear" my skin saying "scratch me! scratch me! I itch!" that doesn't get through the normal mental clutter of the day.

Oh, thank goodness it happens to someone else! For me it is my forearms that do that!

I'm one of those people who are allergic to nearly everything environmental and I am always scratching a rash somewhere or other. I found that Aveeno Anti Itch Lotion helps more than most other anti-itch creams and it isn't goopy or messy to use.

Every so often I wind up at a dermatologist's office but the very expensive, prescription creams aren't a lot better for me than the over the counter ones.

This happens to me too! It's not just my shins, it's my ankles and the bottom of my feet, too. We have a giant, wrought iron bed with lots of scroll work and great for getting the bottoms of my feet scratched.

I now have a regimen before bed of putting anti-itch (clear) calamine gel on my shins and it helps, also, believe it or not rubbing alcohol takes the itch out.

Interesting! I have no skin problems anywhere else, but the shinbone area is always dry and scaly. Glad to know it's not some Strange Tropical Disease.
