Pearl knotting

Does anybody use that fancy knot tying tool, the one that runs about $30 or so? I'm about ready to try a knotted necklace, but want a professional appearance, and am wondering if I *need* that tool?...thanks, in advance, of course!

When I did some I just used a darning needle to slide the knot down. Shirley

I bought one, but I don't use it; I can do better with my fingers and my awl. I'll be glad to sell you mine ;)

I have used it before LC, but I don't think it a necessary tool.

What I prefer are bent nose tweezers. They should run about 4 to 5 dollars at your LBS. String your bead, begin your overhand knot, grab the straight thread with the tip of the tweezer right at the base of the bead by inserting the tweezer thru the middle of the knot loop, pull the thread so that it slides down off the bend and lands at the tip of the tweezer. You can also position knots this way if you would like them further away from the bead, like a sliding illusion necklace.

The only *trick* so to speak, of knotting is getting your tension just right. You should pull each knot with the same amount of force and all will be fine.

Sometimes you can find bent nose tweezers in the make-up dept., but they aren't as easy to handle.

well, gosh darnit, that's terribly generous of you, but if the concensus is that we don't need them, I'll let you put it on ebay and rake in the big bucks for it! ;)

Oh cool, I have those...but I'm wondering what the aitch-ee-double toothpicks one would be doing in the make-up department?...oh, wait...TWEEZERS...I was thinking PLIERS!...

(humph, prolly a tool that my facial torture lady would use!)

No you definitely do not. Use long skinny tweezers. No need for gimmicky expensive thingies. ~~ Sooz

Yes! And it's much easier than using an awl, too.

I think the key to the long skinny tweezers is a very small point. I've been watching Carol Duval for years and this is what they had on one of the shows.

I used a very fine awl.

I have the tri-cord knotter and for the life of me, can't figure out how to use it. The instructions with it are awful. At least, mine are. I think I have one of the first ones ever made - got it from someone else.

Well, keep in mind I have the 'original' set of instructions. They are handtyped and mimeographed and date back to the 80's. The ones on the web site seem better. I just haven't had time to try them.

Hmm..should listen to myself sometimes. Google is our friend:

Wow, that just sounds so excessive, when a simple pair of long skinny tweezers will do it -- fast and easy. ~~ Sooz
