Question about charity auctions

Well, all that sounds good in theory, but logistically, might be hard to accomplish. Plus, I am not sure that Rebekah's family wants to give out their address to a whole bunch of people to get the money to them. But it's definitely an idea.

If you really, really think about it, it's just a bigger version of anyone running eBay auctions. With some added parts---these items don't belong to the auctioneer, and the money goes to an outside party. It's just that all the steps are super sized.

There could be one Master Host whose only job would be to collect from the small group leaders, and forward the proceeds.

The only major difference I can come up with at this point is that there will be several links to the auctions on Starlia's page, instead of just one. Other than that, it's the same job and process, except spread out a little.

Managing items from just two or three people has to be a lot easier than managing a boat load of donations... especially if we're talking photographing items, writing text, listing, dealing with customers when the auctions end. And that's not counting fees, getting packages ready to ship, actually shipping the packages... I get overwhelmed just

*thinking* about it. But like I said, just a suggestion :)

Yes, I know... that's just it. I know how *I* feel when I run my one or two little auctions, I can only imagine what it would be like if everything was super sized!

*grins* It's a daunting task, isn't it? I admire Kandice so much for being the first to handle it. But--it's for such a worthy cause, and really, when there aren't freak issues going on around here, I've got nothing but time. Plus, and this is my selfish side showing, I'm learning a lot about the whole eBay thing. Invaluable to me as a hopeful seller of my own creations.

I have this vision of you as Lily Tomlin's 'Edith' sitting on a big step, feet sticking out and saying 'And that's the truth!'

In a perfect world this would be super. However, most eBay sellers I know would be hesitant to list an item on eBay which they do not have in their hands. After all, it's the person who lists the auction who will get the feedback -- good or bad -- for that auction.

Just a thought Dorothy

I admire BOTH of you, and anyone else who has participated in similar projects... hosts AND those who so generously donate their items. :)

Very true. I'm assuming a deep level of trust between leader and people in her group. :)

Candace, you should NOT be paying for shipping out of pocket. Do you ralize that if this goes on for a long time... and it could... you may end up paying HUNDREDS, in addition to doing what is in essence a part-time job for free? It's wonderful enough for you to donate your time... you don't need to donate your money too.
