Question About Minkee

Aug 25, 2006 6 Replies

Ergo...what *exactly* is it? I've found lots of sites that carry it online, but it's difficult to tell from the photos exactly what it's made of. Is it a cotton? fleece? I can see that it's very soft. I'm sure this is a "duh" question, but you never know if you don't ask. :)

It's a plush polyester velour, much as you might see in a stuffed animal's fur.

Thanks so much -- that makes the photos make more sense. :)

Actually, that's what Avlyn calls their plush velour. :) Shorter "pile," if you prefer that. Moda's Snuggle is shorter as well.

This is a little bit off the subject, but at our county fair one of our best quilters had a quilt backed with minkee. It was so soft and nice. Calling it a velour does not really do it justice in my mind. You just wanted to lay your face in it. I did ask her how it was to work with. She told me the best way was to use the basting spray and the walking foot. JMTCW

I put Minkee on the back of my DGS's band quilt. It was quilted by a long-arm quilter so don't know how difficult it was for here. Here is a link to his quilt.

My DGD and I made a quilt this summer for a friend of hers and we put Minkee on the back and tied it--it was "crawly" as the dickens!!
