Slowing down now

I've slapped all the finished blocks on the design wall in no order. I made some new blocks with black and whites just to add some zing. Obviously I need a few more, but I think I'll start laying them out to see if I need something specific (dark, light, color) before I make any more. This has been FUN! To refresh....the inspiration is from the current QNM. And the piecing method is from a SQ episode...

type Simply Quilts in the search box and go to clip #54 for the instructions for piecing the circles (obviously I'm doing ovals) Now all I need is someone to come clean up my big pile of batiks on the sewing room floor! ARRGGHHH!!

Kathy, you have the most beautiful fabric I've ever seen. And you've put it to incredibly beautiful use. I just got my QNM yesterday and there was your quilt that you'd been posting about. Wowsers. Clearly you have learned the technique and perfected it. I can't wait to see how you arrange those beautiful blocks.

And that's probably less than half the number of batiks I have stashed...a lot less. It's a disease.

got any settings in mind yet? how'd they look on point? silly i'm sure but just popped into my head. a bit wavy, a row to the left, a row to the right etc. offset rows or columns? sashed in rows/columns? hmmmmm still thunk'n. play'n with diff layouts is such fun. they all look marvelous but then you knew that, lol. congrats for learning a new technique so proficiently. gives me hope, jeanne

Sure! C'mon over! I'll share! I just found part of the pile that was "hidden" and had some other fabrics I might like to use. So I'm not done making blocks yet. Oh my. I think I'll refold all this when I'm done. I read someplace about how to fold fabric around a 6"x12" ruler so it stacks well. I might try that technique. My current folding and storing isn't cutting it.

They may be in no order, Kathyl, but they're sure gorgeous! I can't wait to see the quilt. :)

They're just yummy, Kathyl -- kinda like jelly beans. And they don't have to be in any order. Batiks just go together, no matter what the colors are.

Thanks! There was a pattern for the oval in the magazine Estelle. I traced that to use on my freezer paper templates.

Thanks Maureen. I made a few more blocks last night, but it was too late to sew them. I had a procedure today and am now told not to drive or even operate kitchen appliances...so I'm assuming my sewing machine is included. I'd probably sew through my finger....still a bit groggy. But I AM going to milk it to keep from cooking dinner tonight!
