I'm only making two Christmas presents. One will be simple and quick. The other.... well I should have started months ago. Actually, I did. I have all the plans and drawings made. Now all I have to do is put it together. My little niece (2 1/2) lives in Phoenix. We lived there when my boys were small and Christmas was always odd. There is no snow and darned few pine trees. Instead we have lots of cactus and warm weather around Christmas. So I'm making a Christmas Saguaro for Livy. About 3.5 feet tall, on a felt backing. I'm attaching buttons all over and making little toddler-proof decorations that she can put on the buttons via sewn on ribbon. Some of the decorations I'm just cutting out and stuffing. You know, the kind of fabric with big, bright images. I've got ballerinas, a tricycle, frog, ... the list goes on. But some I have to make from scratch. I've got the first one done. It's a little owl that will "live" in a hole I made on the cactus -- just like real saguaro cactus plants often have. I made the "hole" by couching some funky, slubby yarn onto the cactus. I don't have the whole thing done yet. Once I get the arms attached I'm going to put up a photo of the whole contraption. In the meantime I'm posting a pic of the little owl, which I just finished tonight. It took some time to turn a very simple drawing into a very simple little owl decoration, LOL. But I think I like him. He's posted here:

So I won't be working on anything else until I have this done. Has to be winging its way to Phoenix in the next two weeks. I'll post bits at a time, but can't wait to be able to show you the whole thing. Cuz that will mean it's all done! Yay!

What is everybody else working on for Christmas? Am I the only one who's put it all off until the end of November?

Well, back to the SM. I love sewing late nights.

Ahhh. What a good idea. The sort of family tradition present she'll enjoy every year.

I started DSisIL's quillow in the spring and hope to start the quilting (which will be very simple!) this week. Have made an extra cushion too - to use up some of the button material. Pictures wont appear until after Christmas as she sometimes looks at my Webshots.

Today I am finishing the binding on a table runner and making a few cards to sell at Christmas Sale No.1 on Saturday. Already have 2 cushions, another table runner, some tree ornaments and a stocking left from last year. What doesn't sell comes home with me for Sale No 2 (different organisation).

I'm not doing a lot - just enough to boost the Gift stall a bit. Unfortunately people seem to want to buy things that have taken hours to make at silly low prices, and this year I have decided that although the prices will be low, they wont be silly - £2.50 (just over $4) for a quilted cushion complete with cushion pad inside was what they priced them at last year. Even ordinary cakes with butter frosting went for more than that. One lot of fudge divided into little bags makes almost £10. So I'll be cooking at the end of the week.

They obviously had a good sales lady on the stall this year at Sale Number 1! All I brought home with me were a few cards, and she had sold things at the higher marked prices too! (The fudge had all been bought by the helpers before the sale even started!)

As the cupboard is now almost bare, tomorrow will be a mass-production day for some things to donate to Stall number two the week after next. I have some Christmassy blocks I can make into mats, perhaps one or two small stockings, crazy patchwork tree ornaments. If I really concentrate and don't attempt anything too big I should be able to contribute to the Gift Stall a bit. I had already promised myself that after tomorrow I have to start the final bits of the Christmas presents.

So tonight at 11.15pm I am going to bed so I can have an early start. This will be a change from my usual 1.30am+. That will be tomorrow night!
