Beads and Chinese knotting

I go to a craft class on Monday nights and I have been asked to learn Chinese knotting so I can show the others how to. I have made three necklace using beads and shell from RCB members. They are on my website under Beadwork.

I suggested to the ladies that they try to make some polyclay beads to go on the necklace. Guess who will be showing them how to make simple beads this next Monday night. Hugs Shirley

I have taught them many things over the last 14 years we have been going. Just a few comes to mind, spinning, tatting, crochet, beading, cross stitch, Christmas table decorations, a large Christmas cracker. Weaving teapot stands and making roundels. We started as machine knitting group but had to diversify when it went into the doldrums. I have taught them how to make polyclay buttons to put on their knitwear. Also marbling with shaving foam and making greeting cards. Shirley

Very nice, Shirley! I've got a book on Celtic knotwork for beaders and hope to try something similar with that technique.

Thanks Kathy. The cord I used on two of them is too thick for some knots but shows that one up okay. Hugs Shirley

Thanks Barbara. I think the fact that I used to do macramé many years ago helped. Hugs Shirley

I have to give credit were credit is due. At least I would not have anyone asking me to make them a pendant like that. I would not have the first idea of where to start. I used to wear it on the silk cord you sent it on and I got many compliments on it. I proudly say that my friend in USA made it for me.

I say that when I wear any item I have got from RCB friends. Also if I have made something with the beads I have been sent. My floral BFNR necklace attracts attention and I love to tell the story of how my much treasured friends of RCB sent me the beads. Like it said in the card that I still have. "From their hearts to my heart" It still brings a lump to my throat.

With last winter being a bad one for me I have toyed with the idea of giving it up the group this coming one. I certainly want to give up my secretarial job that I do for it and let someone younger take it over. It could mean that I cut my visits there to once every two weeks and not every week. At this moment I am having to do what my body dictates and not force myself. But just go with the flow. Ah well, time for breakfast and the usual load of medication.
