Jerry: In February, I went to a Libby Lehman Lecture on Organization. She covered storage in the sewing room, AND organizing for travel with quilt stuff. >
This is what I remember. Libby packs her SM *without* case into the 21" or 22" carry on bag. She pads it out with her clothes and fabric supplies. She also packs her digital movie camera, small tripod, sewing supplies, personal needs. Not to forget the power cord and pedal! This bag is a bit heavy, and one must lift it into the overhead bin. Libby also carries a 'brief case tote' with lap top, book, etc.
It was interesting lecture. Libby is very lively and personable.

I got one of the Tutto suitcases at APNQ this summer, check out the information at
I got the larger size, the small and medium can be taken as carry on luggage. I can put my Husqvarna Lisa with it's carry case inside. They show machines not with the cover. It has seat belts to hold your sewing machine stable.
I wouldn't check my sewing machine, but to take to workshops and retreats it has been great. Comes in lots of neat colours. I got the serger bag and use it for fabrics.
At my last retreat those two plus my clothes, a small plastic zipper bag from some bedding and a bag with batting handled everything I needed. I even managed to take my own chair and my neighbours luggage and go in my grand am. We even had some space left over!
Sandi, I also have the larger Tutto bag for my Bernina, and I love it! Sturdy, easiest rolling case I've ever had, stable ... it's wonderful. :)
