Quick Question

Hello all one more time. I have been making some beads, and they are slowly getting a little better. Not yet like I want, but I'm learning. I seen some beads that have a real soft matt finished surface. I thought that I would try some Window Etching cream, but that didn't do it. Does someone in here know how that look is done, and perhaps what it's called. I could look it up on the internet if I knew what the term for it was. Thank you all. My last post on here to find Milllifori glass went very well and I managed to find exactly what I was looking for. thanks again to all of you.

Thanks Rick

Hi Rick,

I use Etch All "Dip-n-Etch" liquid. It works great for soft glass like Moretti & Vetrofond & Lauscha. I've only found one color so far that it didn't work well on and that was a vary pale transparent emerald. If I just have 1 or 2 beads to do, I wedge them on a wooden skewer and dip right into the jar . If I have lots of beads to do, I pour some of the liquid in a shallow plastic bowl and carefully pull them out with a plastic fork when they're done. I usually soak my beads 4 to 7 minutes.

I get mine from Frantz Art Glass.... here's the link

That's what I use as well. Be careful, though - etch solution is very dangerous. Ventillate and wear gloves.

Thanks Kandice, I meant to mention that. This stuff WILL BURN if you get it on your skin!

I use the Etch All creme etch to etch dichro pendants. It does not burn or smell either. But, it's probably easier to etch dichro off a flat surface of Bullseye than etching a bead. One of these pendants is posted on my website.

Thank all of you for your quick responces. I have went to the website and ordered some of the Etch All dip-n-etch liquid. This is just the stuff that I was looking for. I'm not ready to show anyone on here the beads that I'm making yet, untill I get a little more practice and get a little better at it. My wife (Bless her heart) did make a necklace and bracelt with some of the beads I've made... As ugly as they are.. she's still encouraging. Thank you all again.

You may not feel it burn, but Etch All is acid - it will cause severe acid burns if it touches your skin.
