Re: Argghhh... Bead Tips!

Which kind of bead tip are you using? There are the "cup" type, with a hole in the cup to thread through, and the "clamshell" type where the thread passes through a hole in the joint of the clamshell. I find the clamshells a lot easier to use. Also, precious metal ones (gold, goldfill, or sterling silver) are a LOT more sturdy than the base metal ones. They'll rarely line up exactly, but one way to "smooth" them (sort of) is to squeeze a tiny dab of cement (I use Hypotube) inside. That secures your knot and holds the whole thing together.

For making the clasp connection, use the tip of your round-nose pliers. I grasp the very edge of the tongue and twist in a curling motion, to tuck the very tip inside and make an overlap. Another dab of cement can't hurt, just wipe it clean.

Hope this helps!

Well Linda, since we both explored the uses of bullion together I'll tell you what I do. And I must say, I love bullion now. After you thread the bullion onto your wire/thread/whatever and pass it back through the crimp and a few beads pull REALLY hard so the bullion kind of crimps up on itself. When you do that the bullion (which is just wire) overlaps each little coil. I have never had it stretch when I do it like that. When I just thread it through and don't pull hard enough I have had it stretch on me. Also, get the "heavy" wire, not the thin stuff. It seems to hold up better. My LBS sells it in heavy medium and thin and heavy looks pretty big, but it works very well.

As for bead tips...I used to like those until I discovered crimp beads. They are a PITA to use, and always come undone on me.

Good luck Linda!!

go into a circle that you attach the clasp<

I used beadtips on this necklace. I attached them like rings - no smashing.

You close the two halves of the clamshell *very* carefully, so as not to crush it. I think patience is paramountwhen using them! They definitely are not my favorite .Carol in SLC What I do in my spare time:

Thank you, Carol! I'll try closing them *v e r y* *s l o w l y* from now on and add some glue in there, too. "GLUE! It's a wonderful thing!" heh...

Hi, sweetheart. :))))) I do love the way it looks and I do pull it really tight when I'm finishing off the bracelets. I really think it's the combined weight of the lampwork beads & silver/Bali beads that ends up distorting the bulion after a period of time wearing the bracelets tho...

And I didn't know it comes in different weights! Thanks! I've another wire class coming up in a few days at my not-so-LBS and I'll be sure to check into that. Thanks, doll! :)

Hi, Karen. I guess I'm using the clamshell type... it's open and looks like a clamshell, anyway. :) Good tip on using glue to hold the seam together! I use the tips with softflex; I thread my wire through the clamshell, then add a crimp bead and small sterling bead. Then I go back through the crimp bead and the small sterling bead keeps the wire from going back through the hole. Then I close the 'shell'. I'll try using a dab of Hypocement next time I wrassle with those &*^#*((&*& bead tips! :)
