Re: Grammy Glass

Great stuff. What the heck is her name?!?! My pet peeve -- since I do the

Men are raised to be proud of their accomplishments, and they're taught to promote themselves. That's one of the main reasons they make more money than women. Women, *especially* women of her generation (guessing from the "Grammy" part of her business name) were taught to be humble about their accomplishments, and to downplay themselves. (I know I don't need to tell you this... you know!) Women of MY generation were raised by enlightened women of her generation who had learned that the role they'd been raised in was bullsh*t, and did their best to teach us to take pride in our accomplishments... but we still have a hard time, because our mothers could *tell* us to be proud and to promote ourselves, but they still, unconsciously, were living the old way and could not *show* us.

We all need to try consciously to display these skills. Some women (Tink!) are really good at it, and set a good example for the rest of us.

Thank you, Kalera... It's a constant battle with myself though. Even my recent experience of having folks point out to me that they didn't like the stuff on my auctions where I wrote about myself in the third person. It was very difficult to say what I said in the first person, even though I believe it.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that men aren't often stalked by people who visit their websites, and women are being constantly counseled about trying to remain anonymous on the web because of all the "weirdos" out there. Just a thought.

That's what I think it is. Did you ever notice it's generally men who commit hideous sexual assault and child molestation? I think as women, we think about safety first and anonymity feels like a good cloak.

I was warned against using my real name online for that reason, but I decided, the hell with 'em! Sure, I've had a couple of problems, but I've had more from using my real name in real life, and I'm not about to stop doing that.

Good for you! I understand more fully your desire to use your name as your business name.

Her name is Janie Jones and I met her today at the IBS show here in Tallahassee. I told her about this thread, so don't be surprised if she adds a reply soon! She was very nice and her pieces are even nicer in person.

Honey, you can. Your house is big enough to hide several people in fact!!!

I don't usually don't use my real name, and I don't give out the town in which I live, because of my kids. Years ago, I had some nutball track me down and threaten to kill DD (who was four years old at the time) because he disagreed with something I posted. He didn't write or post anything on the board, just showed up on my doorstep.

Very, very scary.

P.S.: The police were ho-hum about my saying there was a man standing in my front yard, threatening to rape and kill my daughter, saying it was probably a disgruntled boyfriend. They changed their tune when I told them she was four. He wasn't arrested, but they ran him off and we've never heard from him again.

Yeah, she's cool. I met her when she did the IBS show in Asheville. We were talking while my niece (12 yo, bought almost entirely lampwork at the show... I'm so proud!) picked out a bead. I mentioned that I want to do lampwork eventually. She told me to just come down to Charlotte (which is where she lives, well Charlotte area anyway) and she'll teach me! And for less than elsewhere. Isn't that just cool? She doesn't even know me and said that! ^_^

P.S. I'm back! For a bit, anyway... I'll probably go MIA again soon... DH and I are looking for a storefront... the fleamarket is soo not working. ^_^

Wow that is cool!!

I wonder if I talked to her at the Asheville show.

I'm still hoping to take a lampwork class at William Holland (and a PMC class at wildacres). Ooh lots of educatin' for me coming up!

That is very scary.

I have a .45, a fast hand, and almost perfect aim, though I hope never to use it on anything but a target or an elk. (No, I don't hunt elk with a .45! I don't hunt elk with anything, my husband is vegan.)
