Re: Kaleidoscopes for Beading some suggestions

Don't know if this info is much needed as probably most of you are accomplished beaders ..... but here goes:

The overall length of the Kaleidoscope is approx. 2 1/4 inches.... the length of the center pipe varies a little from kit to kit. The center pipe diameter is 5/8". The diameter of the end caps is

13/16". You can just bead the center part of the Kaleidoscope leaving the end caps showing, using size 11 seed beads in even count tubular peyote. Or you can use Delicas and bead a flat piece (this method works great for those of you who love to do patterned projects) and then wrap it around the Kaleidoscope and "zip it" up. You could use Delicas to bead around the Kaleidoscope with even count peyote but the Delicas would be going the "wrong" way as the diameter of the pipe is small and the overall "feel" of the beading would be kind of "rough", if you know what I mean..... though YMMV.

If you are beading directly around the Kaleidoscope, I suggest you cover the exposed threading on the pipe with electrical tape, so pipe threading doesn't catch or snag your beading thread. Our local Menards Lumber/Home Improvement store carries electrical tape in colors (red, green, yellow, white and black). I think the electrical tape will hold up better over time as opposed to cellophane or masking tape.

When I want to be the WHOLE Kaleidoscope to the very ends I use 2 to 3 ounce weight leather to fill in the center part (use Terrifically Tacky Tape to adhere the leather to Kaleidoscope or your favorite glue). I suppose you could use any firm material or even electrical tape to fill in the gap.

If you are not into seed beading use above method to fill in the center and then wrap with another piece of leather and wire wrap adding beads onto the wire. I like this look but have no examples left to show pictures, others like them too and purchased them.

Obviously there are many possibilities! Hope you all have a great time beading your Kaleidoscopes!!

Happy Beading, Karen
