Beading on leather

any tips? what kind of needles, what kind of beads, thread, etc?

Get glover's needles. Smallest available size, so the beads don't get caught trying to let the eye pass through. Their triangular shape makes a huge difference in how easily and cleanly you can pierce the leather. Work just as well on ultrasuede.

A lot of Native beadwork is sewn onto felt or (better) pellon with beading needles, then that is sewn onto the leather with glover's (leather) needles. The leather needles are heavy so you need to use bigger beads if you're stitching directly onto the leather.
