]But, I'm not talking about the issue of educating people. ] ]My point is that even if someone does perfect dots, the customer just sees ]polka dots. Or the customers see daisy love flowers from the 60s. Perfect ]stripes are still just stripes. Or a perfect handmade spacer, looks just ]like a plain manufactured bead.

]Perceived value likes something more surprising.

i thought i understood that part, honestly. maybe we meant different things when i wrote and you read "educating". 99% of the people i sell jewelry to don't even know the lampwork is handmade!

the first thing i generally hear is "where did you find that kind of bead". so i explain that they are hand-made . . . starting with rods of glass and a torch. the beads take on a whole different form in their heads at that point. if you see what i mean? so at that point, even polka dots are amazing to them. and if they then see what Kandice, or Tink, or Karen can do with glass, they realize even more. and if i can tell them where the ARTIST lives, that helps, too. it becomes MORE than "just jewelry and pretty beads".

That's why most people can't tell the difference between a perfect (insert beadmaker's name here) dotted bead and one of the cheapos from China. And they usually don't care, either.....except for the price tag.

I really like the subject matter written on the bead. We all love art and get inspiration from a number of sources, including Corina's awesome beads.>>>>

that's really COOL - but the price is ridiculous! LOL Cheryl of DRAGON BEADS Flameworked beads and glass

Same here - but only because it's damn hard to match some colors and spacers help with that.

my friend here in Paradise keeps telling people about our trip to the LBS and holding lampwork up against hanks of seed beads - trying to match colors!

But I often have found that "matching" spacers don't match.

then that would be the fault of the creator.

hopefully, they would use some of the same colors for the spacers they did for the focal.

Sometimes there will be spacer that matches the core color, but the focal(s) are mostly covered in other colors. Or they will match an accent color that would be quite different from what you would use for the main part (especially for a necklace that uses many other beads).

**smile** of course, there is always "artistic license" involved.

Well, maybe I'll do some of each... I do have a cool orange-and-aqua etched set with matching spacers that I just made; in this case, I had extra spacers from two other sets, and they looked so good together that I had to make a set combinting those colors!

If you make them out of the same glass, they should... but sometimes I layer many colors of glass, and it would be impossible to make a spacer that actually matched without putting tons of time into them.

Awww... I like your "spacers"! That pink & blue set I won has great spacers-- just have to dig out the rose quartz and "blueberry quartz" beads, and fit them up with some Bali bead caps..... Kaytee "Simplexities" on
